Traffic light system and progression chart not working

It looks like you’re not on a training plan currently. Are you hand-picking the workouts you’re doing?

I’d recommend getting on a custom, adaptive training plan. Then we’ll get you the right workouts!

Also, everyone is right about PLs. They will only change if you pass a workout with a higher level than your current PL in that zone.

Let me know if I can help out further! :slightly_smiling_face:

Eddie will correct me if I’m wrong, but selecting “TrainNow” should also suggest good workout options if you don’t want to set up a plan…. not sure why you wouldnt want a plan though….

TrainNow is a great option for those who can’t or don’t want to follow a training plan, or even when you just need to pick a workout in a pinch, but a training plan is usually better for most athletes.

It depends on your goals and available time, though! TrainNow is a great tool!

Right I got to the bottom of this .Basically the app is offline and not updating . I’d notice it saying that it was offline after I put my feedback . Once I shut it down and relogged back in it updated. Maybe a bug in the app. I’m unsure if the previous workouts were added to the progression chart but it doesn’t look it.

Update. I’ve had to go back through the calendar and re-enter the perceived effort and they started to update the chart. So definitely a bug on your android phone app ,Trainerroad.

I dont think so.

I Just had a quick look at your calander and you havent done a workout at a level higher than your current levels - thats why they’re not increasing.

I also notice that you rated your last level 1 threshold workout as “hard” - if level 1 threshold workouts are really hard then I think your FTP might be set a little high - but adaptive training/ftp detection should get that sorted over time.

I think you would benefit from a one-to-one dialog with a member of TR support so that they can go through this with you.

No , there’s a problem with the app connecting to the internet . I set it to hard to see if it would make a difference. Traffic light system hasn’t worked for a month during which most of my rides have been outside and on zwift. There’s an issue with it saying it’s offline and not connected which explains the traffic light system going missing for a month. I’ve just signed up to a plan , will see how it goes. My ftp is too low and everything is too easy. At a guess Id say I’m closer to 240. I’ll do a ramp test to check.

Would it be better to have set it to easy, as hopefully this would push and increase in your PL, or isn’t that what you were trying to do?

I do think there is a hole in TR when it comes to doing unstructured training outdoors, but how this could be resolved is beyond me. Glad to hear you are now on a training plan as this should help get you caught up to the right PL’s.

I’m not having any connection issues when using TR and would expect the forum to blow up if this was a reguar issue, so suspect this may be local to you rather than a more extensive TR bug, but definately worth running it past support.

Evertime I’ve contacted them, they’ve been super helpful.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one :+1:

The connection issue with TR, maybe it’s just an internet drop-out and not the app, if you restart the app does it show connected again.

The app has been connected as otherwise the sessions would not be there completed on the web app. Your PLs represent the workouts you have completed and you have yellow days Tuesday and Saturday (tomorrow) this week so that seems to be working. Therefore I’d suggest the connection issue has nothing to do with your reported problems with PLs and RLGL (in my opinion.)

I do sometimes get a message on Android saying off-line, these is normally when I have left the app open, done other things and then go back to it. If I close the app and reopen it, the TR app is back online. I assume this is Android setting, putting services to sleep, or me moving from one wi-fi network to another, and not the TR app. I occasional get messages saying, inactive app or service put to sleep.

If it happens regularly I’d contact TR support.

Yes, that’d be my guess, too.

The reason is that TR is based on Electron, an application framework that builds on top of Chrome’s browser engine. At least until 2ish (?) years ago engine famously has issues dealing with changes in connection (e. g. when you pass from wifi to cellular) and lost connections. If this is the issue, then TR can do nothing about it, it is a bug with Chrome’s engine.

Same for me and no issues ever with PLs or RLGL. I see this on the windows app if I finish a workout and never close out of it, come back the next day it will say not connected. Closing app and reopening fixes it. On android, having recently switched to doing workouts on a tablet, if I get distracted setting up it will lock and show offline, closing app and reopening seems to fix it. I’ve had it displaying the red offline bar and still had my phone go nuts with strava/garmin etc being updated that I finished a workout so even with it says offline it is still apparently connected at times.

While this is an issue that is annoying it isn’t the issue with the PL/RLGL, which from what everyone has noted about completed workouts doesn’t seem to actually be an issue anyway.

While I don’t think you have an issue with progression levels not updating or red light green light not working….. you do seem to have run into an issue with all your levels being nerfed to 1.

I think this is down to you having FTP increases while not using TR but I’m not sure. Because FTP increases always decrease your levels.

I would reach out to support and say that you believe that the workouts on your plan are too easy.

I think what they will do is take a look and most likely swap out some of those upcoming workouts with harder higher-level workouts.

But to reiterate: Your PL chart looks as expected based on the workouts you have completed, red light green light looks like it’s working as expected and the disconnected error on the app is extremely unlikely to be an issue.

Alternatively you can just follow the plan and rate all the workouts as “easy” and that will make your plan ramp up quicker - but might take a while.

Important to note that rating workouts easy will have an affect on upcoming workouts - but will not affect your PL level chart - your chart will only change after you have successfully completed a workout.

Yeah there’s deffo an issue with your progression levels. If you look in the workout you can see the proper levels.

Something really is messed up, your calender shows a completely different activity on Wednesday to what recent activity shows.
