TR + Zwift Bike + KICKR Core

Hi,

I’m completely confused about whether or not the very reasonably priced (US $1300) Zwift Bike + KICKR Core (+ Zwift cog?) will work w/ TrainerRoad for ERG workouts.

Background:
I have used TR for years with the ‘full’ KICKR and an old bike w/o issue. However, I need to spend many months away from home for work and will be renting an apartment. I’ll have my road bike with me but would prefer not to have the hassle of taking it on and off the trainer to take an outdoor ride. Thus, I’m considering getting the Zwift Bike + KICKR Core. Will that setup work w/ standard TrainerRoad ERG mode workouts? I have no desire to use Zwift but I do use Rouvy sometimes.

Does the choice of cog matter – asking because I’ve seen various conflicting bits on the topic. ChatGPT says that there may be problems with ERG mode. That would be bad. Do I even have a choice about the cog w/ the Zwift Bike? Is it possible to shift the Zwift Bike with a core other than the Zwift Core? I gather that the shifters on the Zwift Bike may not work w/ TR but that doesn’t matter as I only use TR in ERG mode. Rouvy, BTW, says that the Zwift Cog and shifters works fine with them – good as shifting does matter w/ a Rouvy ride.

There is a Zwift Ride Owners Group on Facebook if you want to try asking them.

Yes, ERG mode using the Kickr Core with the Zwift cog works perfect. Even as Zwift subscriber I run this setup sometimes when I want to zone out and watch something else e.g. a bike race. Most of the time I’d rather use incline mode for TR workouts in Zwift.

Thank you! That saves me a lot of $ over buying a full wahoo bike or the hassle of buying the Core by itself then find a cheap used bike as a frame.

Thanks! I wasn’t aware of that.
