TR Price Increase to $189.95/year ($19.95/month)

60% of the time, it works every time.

Everyone keeps saying is that TR is the best option to make you faster. Is there even one shred of evidence that this is true? And not just individual opinions? Can it be proven that it is better than SufferFest and their 4D model? Can it be proven that it is better then Xert and their adaptive workouts? Can it be proven that it is better than even Zwift and their training plans? I believe that training plans are like diets- the one that is best is the one that you stick to. For me TR is the best option for structured training. The main reason being that wide range of plans and workouts that I can do workouts while doing something else like watching videos. Because, for me, hours of indoor training is boring. I’ve done Sufferfest for months and got sick of the goofy videos. So, eventually I turned the videos off and did what I am doing on TR now. However, I do think that the 4DP is a better approximation of my entire power output than just FTP.

Revolut solves the forex problem. Pretty sure N26 also does.

FWIW, I would be fine paying even more for this service, though I am grandfathered in. I don’t race, but I love numbers and gear and TR is, by far, the best money I spend on my fitness every year. It has made me fitter and faster and continues to entertain me every week with my favorite podcast. Keep up the good work.

I got stung by this, having assumed that TR would have a good system for sorting billing cycle changes and not read the prices until it was too late. Then ā€˜complain to TR’ got bumped off my to-do list by a bunch of other stuff.

Feels kind of sucky having been with TR since 2013 but paying newbie prices.

  • I am curious what this really means?

Getting rid of constant sarcasm would require a brain transplant in my case.

It’s about the loose change left in your jersey pockets after buying ice cream with the emergency money you always carry.

No training plan can be proven to make you faster. Only you can prove you can get faster.

Any training plan can be proven to make you faster.
It would be very difficult to prove that one training plan was better than another.

This is empirically false. They do it all the time in studies.

It’s impractical for an individual to compare between training plans because it requires a detraining period.

Agree. Grandfathering leaves a lot of money on the table. Current users don’t mind paying a higher price if the product gets added features that they care about.

Without increasing price to the existing base, new users need to be charged a higher price to generate the same revenue you could have had you increased price to the base. This may be what’s happening here. And you end up in a situation where the high price for the new users may be too high vs. perceived value.

If the product is ā€œworthā€ $15, better to charge everyone $15, rather than some people $10, and others $20 for the same product.

Agree, or at least modify grandfathering (which i am on) so it is only one price increase behind, rather than set in stone for ever

Of course it can’t be proven. The views expressed in my posts are my opinions and my opinions alone. You and anyone else are welcome to disagree with them.

Have there ever been any long-term studies of different training methodologies? he only ones I have seen only cover a month or two. Is there anything longer than that?

The bottom line is that if there was one methodology that was the best for everyone, everyone would do it. Most methods are theories, and you hit the nail on the head in your earlier post: the best training plan for most anyone is the one they will stick to. When you get into the elite levels, that’s where it gets tricky, and individual physiology and psychology play a significant role. What is optimal for one person may not be for another. Changing stimulus and progressive training loads are key general concepts that seem to broadly apply, and there are many ways to crack that rock.

I thought this was a joke or a proposal by a user early this am.
