Thinking about it, it would really be cool if TR could analyze your outside riding and suggest complementary workouts indoors to maintain your fitness or even to complement a plan
The TSB/TSS chart with daily granularity on intervals.icu is way better. A TSS chart that snaps to calendar week increments is useless if you take a one week rest that spans two calendar weeks, for example. I’ve never gotten any value out of the TR TSS chart - it’s also so vertically compressed that it’s hard to see anything in it at all.
And the most interesting and unique feature is the relative percentile best efforts against the user base. Very interesting to see strengths and weaknesses. Not totally scientific but pretty unique insight.
Other stuff like the calendars and PR charts and ride power curves are way more polished visually in TR and better overall design interface IMHO.
I am newer to TR and do not have Power outdoors. Although this response isn’t specific to the idea of an outdoor plan, I would like it if TR would recommend HR zones/rates in place of power outdoors. Yes, there are many factors affecting HR, but would give me confidence I am doing SS vs Threshold effort.
This is exactly it for me. I want to be have an outdoor plan where I can leave open certain days for “unstructured” work, then depending on the character of that work, TR is adapting the plan to keep me on target for my goals.
This isn’t what you asked for, but have you noticed that you can switch from “power” to “RPE based” instructions for the workout?
This may have already been suggested, but something else I’d love to see would be the ability to ask TR to go back and create a history of FTP. It would help give some context to the current FTP number that TR is showing me and allow me to move over and be able to better look at my historical fitness.
You can already do this but it’s not entirely obvious. Go to your Account page, then click on “FTP History” - https://www.trainerroad.com/app/profile/edit/power-weight-history It doesn’t show (at the moment) whether the FTP change is due to estimated FTP, a Ramp Test or a manual change.
Edit: There are a lot of options and context menus “hidden” around the web site (I don’t use the desktop app) so it’s worth opening a page and moving the mouse around until the cursor changes to the hand/link icon and then clicking it. One or two options require you to click on that particular area - clicking on an empty part of any day in the calendar brings up a menu for example.
I would have been tempted to do this before I tried TR, but I now alternate enough between indoor and outdoor that it just males sense to have one subscription that does it all.
Ready for AT to recognize outdoor workouts ASAP, though. Warm weather’s coming!

Yeah, sorry, what I meant was, I’d like to see this chart populated with changes that TR thinks it’s detected over time.
Part of what I was getting at with:
So rather than:
Date : record : action
You’d have:
Date: source : record : action
Yeah, still not really what I’m saying, and it might not be good in this table, because you might not always accept the suggestions. I’m saying I want TR to look at my whole history, even before I was using TR, and before AI FTP, and go back and plot all the times it would have detected a change.
I might be getting into the weeds here, but wouldn’t it change 1 or 2 watts up or down almost every single day?
I’d settle for an estimate every time I changed FTP. So basically I record of my ego over my fitness
Great idea, but for those of us that plan on keeping TR all year round anyway why not offer a loyalty bonus ie after a full 12 months subs you could offer a percentage reduction. Users would feel rewarded and brag about their lower subs to their mates like a badge of honour
Welcome!
There’s actually a long thread all about TR pricing, bonuses, discounting, etc. You might (if you want to lose the will to live ) read it.
I am curious about improvements AT is counting outside ridrs into progression levels.
But TR is already a great tool for the whole season. Whoch I like to use . In focus plan builder. Outside workouts, and sprint workouts on the trainer.
It gives every training a purpose. Which is great.
Don’t over think it. Do a low volume plan and go ride outdoors at will. Either skip or move the scheduled workouts and AT will keep you progressing along correctly.
Is there a time frame…
Maybe until spring ??
My equipment is ready
