Tom Bell about TR statement that indoor and outdoor FTP is the same

Damn I thought we were going to get some poetry

Light breaks where no sun shines;
Where no sea runs, the waters of the heart
Push in their tides;
And, broken ghosts with glow-worms in their heads,
The things of light
File through the flesh where no flesh decks the bones.
A candle in the thighs
Warms youth and seed and burns the seeds of age;
Where no seed stirs,
The fruit of man unwrinkles in the stars,

Better? My steel bike from 1972 vs my new Trek Domane 2023…In 1972 the bike was $105 …yes it was cheaper…better? Nope

I thought we were going to get to go “Back to School”

With a triple-lindy to top it off

Am I the only one reading the mono space font and wondering where the source code is? blocks of text is harder to read monospace :frowning:

Let me solve this debate once and for all with the introduction of TTP ™ - the one metric to rule them all.

TTP == Training Threshold Power, and it has no relationship to anything other than using it to set zones off of for training.

Now that I’ve solved this dilemma, feel free to rant on :rofl::thinking::rofl:

The beauty of TTP is that you can use whatever method (90% of max 8min effort, 95% of max 20min effort, AIFTP detection, etc) and nobody can say your TTP is wrong

Yeah, but my TTP is higher outside than inside :rofl:

Higher power doesn’t win races. Higher average speed does. My average speed outdoors is always higher than indoors. Indoors it is always zero.

:thinking: :rofl:

Do you use the same durations to test TTP inside and outside?

:joy:

Clearly it should be hyper training threshold power and strength or https. That way it’s better than the old way of doing things like ftp and gopher (gym only power and home exercise result)

I like this, let me take it further.

My watt kg metric is Watts PLUS kg. It’s mine so no one else can use it. I now rule the domain with 340Wkg.

You weigh 339kg?

:rofl::rofl::rofl: man my WKg is gonna be untouchable at this rate.

I have noticed my stages power meter arm reads about 5-15w lower than my cycleops hammer trainer (depending on the wattage) by linking them to different head units on the same ride. So I just ride to the hammers power when using the hammer and ride to the stages when outside = lower indoor ftp problem solved!

Few monts ago I started this topic also… and I still think this is a legit question…

I have to say, if you* (royal you) have a drastically higher outdoor power than indoor, it’s probably because your fan situation is woefully inadequate. Heck, look at some of the pain cave pics. Some of y’all need fan Jesus. You really need at least one serious blower fan if not two or three.

Another possibility which hopefully isn’t the case is using a trainer power meter inside and different power meter outside.

Second on the fan point. I have 3 box fans plus a stand up fan (Lasko walmart) and I sweat a huge amount even with that

I have same bike, same PM, 2 fans and air dehumidifier… and it is not just me…

  • Any ideas on the missing link(s) that remain at the root of the differences?
