First, again great podcast @Jonathan@Nate_Pearson lots of respect also for the drive jonathan has for LV100 race… deep bow..
But, I’m infected by the bug too and it keeps circling in my head. Today I’ve had my eureka!
TR is giving me a yellow day, rest or low intensity. I did, very low intensity ride see the screenshot. I also after a long time checked my other account fitness/form status and I see that all the other logging software (Trainingpeaks , Intervals, Strava, Garmin, WKO, Zwift, Join are telling me I’m super fresh and ready to rock.
This could be the issue, TR is not correctly representing the correct fitness/form and with this, it miscalculated the workouts, with this it messed up the plan en the ftp prediction.
I could be wrong, but it is worth checking I think.
Keep in mind that TR’s fatigue management system is predicting long-term fatigue and is sensitive to inconsistencies in training stress. It’s not the same as what you’re seeing in those other apps.
What did your day on the 18th look like? How much TSS did you pick up?
Interesting conversation and I appreciate you raising it, along with Eddie’s explanation of the difference between how TR is thinking vs. traditional TSB thinking. Interested to see how this goes.
See foto, did an easy ride (even easier than planned by TR) and had a technical training with the MTB club. Sum of tss was 112 incl the technical training.
Looking back at your past training with your training approach in mind, I don’t know if this yellow day is too out of line or consequential to your upcoming workouts, in my opinion.
You don’t typically have hard workouts on Fridays, so you’re not missing out on anything there.
If this was a major driver for the bug others are seeing, I think there would be some clear tie to training approach as well as training history, since yellow/red days would likely be a trigger for worse behavior.
If you think that this yellow day was unjust, though, let me know and I’ll be happy to take a closer look and let you know my thoughts on how to manage this type of stuff moving forward.
Me neither, for me the yellow day was a big surprise and with the dropping fitness/form etc lines in other software, this is why my thoughts goes to a maybe mis judgment (bug) in TR.
So dropping training load, form and fitness, dropping FTP and getting a yellow (rest)day is the bug.
Hope this helps you analyse as in 4 weeks I have my second A race of the year (nationals xco) I cannot afford to already get into tapering now (and the graphs show TR is pushing me to this). I’ve already missed a good prep for the first A race (Traka), dont want to mis this one (but I think I will)..
I do want to clarify that even if your overall fitness/form is dropping (based on other platforms), you can still get fatigue warnings from single activities. This is all based on what we think your body is used to and what you’re doing. If you’re not used to 110+ TSS in a single day, we might recommend taking it easy the next day.
We’re not necessarily saying that you’re overtraining, but we’re saying that continuing on that path long-term likely wouldn’t be sustainable.
What you’re seeing with your TSS chart between now and your A race is due to all of your upcoming B races and the openers the day before. Recently, you’ve been doing a hard workout on Saturdays and a long ride on Sundays. Those opener workouts only have 25 TSS, and your B races are only scheduled to be an hour long, so 81 TSS in your case. That’s a big difference.
Hi Eddie, thanks for your reply and thoughts sharing.
My pov in this is that the (take last saturday and sunday training) both were selected by TR, so Im sure that TR would calculate with it or this is the next bug ..
If I’m not used to 110 tss it is because TR never gave such a training..
I understand you’re saying im not overtraining. I feel this in my body too, very very very fresh and ftp is still dropping.
I’v set indeed the b races as they (TR note for setting race a b or c) are supporting the a race. Do you recommend to set these to c race? (Bear in mind, it is race season).
Just a question we all like to be answered. Is there a horizon in sight for the bug problem? As you feel, it (i’m) annoyed right now and again, this is whyz I cancelled my subscription…(which end in july)
Did you follow the structure of the workout on Sunday? What does your power curve look like for that one?
There is a limit for each athlete at any given time to what type of training they can incorporate into each week and remain productive. If we’re not giving you 110+ TSS days, there may be a good reason for that. That doesn’t mean that you absolutely cannot go and do those types of rides sometimes, but if you do and we think you should take it easy the next day, we’ll definitely let you know.
I don’t think you need to change your B races to C races. I just wanted to point out how that’s the reason for your drop in predicted TSS between now and your A race. You’ve replaced two of your highest TSS days with a 30-minute opener workout and a 60-minute race. That’s a big drop from a 90-minute hard workout and a 3-hour endurance ride.
Those races might be hard, though, and they will certainly contribute to your race fitness.
I unfortunately don’t have an ETA on the bug fix yet. All I can say is that it’s the first thing we discuss each day in our team meeting, and it’s still our #1 priority. We all want this fixed and behind us.
We’re sorry for the trouble it has caused, though.
Thx… to answer your question regarding the sunday workout structure.. I did not and the reason is very easy that it is absolutely not possiblle to keep the power between the 234 and 236 (2 w diff) for 230 min. So I did my ride and came close to the IF and TSS numbers.
If you were above the prescribed IF and TSS, that could be why you saw a yellow day on Monday. Hemp is already a long workout, and placed directly after a hard workout with some extra riding, it all compounds.
There are ways around fatigue detection if you would rather not have had that yellow day, though.
Let me know your thoughts and if you’re interested in discussing that.
I e been saying this for months. I went for a wander around the neighborhood and got a yellow day bc I recorded my walk. I did an easy swim, same. I’ve done back to back days, got a yellow.
Bottom line IMO is TR has no machine learning, at least it knows not applies nothing from my history to today. The solution is to turn it off. Dont anger distracted, go with feel/personal knowledge.
Bottom line: IMO i don’t see that TR has any machine learning, at least it does not seem to apply anything from my history to something I may do today.
No need to look back, I’m fine. I’ve been a TR member since the beginning and use TR but do not follow a plan. I ride outside mostly when I can and dependent on weather.
