The Ironman Training 2022 Thread

My trisuit is fairly bland - see my profile pic.

Thanks Joe.

August was a decent week for me.

10 hours 30 mins swimming
28 hours 5 mins on the bike
19 hours 20 mins running
8 hours strength

I feel pretty good with my biking and running heading into Washington 70.3 which is less then 2 weeks away now. I do which I have been able to do a little bit more time with everything, especially swimming. But been pretty busy at work, pool closures and some family things have gotten in the way. But still happy for the month. Hopefully to have a good day at Washington and then a few more weeks of building after that before 70.3 Worlds. Will do a bit more volume for those weeks leading into worlds.

Also starting to plan next year around CdA Ironman with St. George 70.3 and another 70.3 which I’m undecided about beforehand.

Least distinctive tri suit in the sport for me but I’ll be putting on a vest for the run unless it’s horrible weather (I run very hot). Black and orange Race hub vest.

Going to swim on Friday all being well If anyone wants company.

@Benwgoodfellow i reckon you’ll be a lap up the road on the run so can you do the decent thing and look a bit tired please?

August was good. It was my last build of the season to 70.3 WI this weekend. I feel pretty good and haven’t really missed many workouts in the last month. I am feeling injury free and looking forward to it! Will anyone else be there?

Sounding good - I understand @VAgreg is registered for 70.3 Wisconsin

EBay… :joy:.

No, mine cost me £3.5k but I built it it up over time

I’m actually doing the full on Sunday. Weather is looking good and I am not injured so that is a win!

Good luck!

Aug OK. I was really hoping to get some consistent training leading up to Kona in October, but a nasty cold and a hip injury derailed that some. The cold forced 3 days of no training and an ease back into normal training. The hip flared up after 5k I ran as part of a sprint relay (which if you ignore the injury, was some of the most fun I’ve had in multisport). I can still feel the hip when I run, but the pain is manageable. I have a feeling ibuprofen is going to be my crutch to get through the next month to get to the start line.

The Numbers:
wk 31: Total: 14 hr, Bike: 8.75 hr (5 rides), Run: 3.5 hr (4 runs), Swim: 2 hr (4 swims)
wk 32: Total: 11.25 hr, Bike: 8.5 hr (4 rides), Run: 2.75 hr ( runs), Swim: 0 hr (0 swims) - Cold
wk 33: Total: 17 hr, Bike: 12.5 hr (7 rides), Run: 1.75 hr (3 runs), Swim: 2.5 hr (4 swims) - Sprint Relay
wk 34: Total: 16.5 hr, Bike: 11 hr (5 rides), Run: 1.5 hr (2 runs), Swim: 4 hr (5 swims) - Hip Injury/Minimal Running

FYI, just saw on FaceBook that they changed the run course. Looks like an out and back along the north side of Lake Monona instead of a loop around the lake.

Hi everyone!
Starting to feel like the beginnings of spring here, and I’m finally starting to feel like I’m getting my fitness in a pretty good place for the upcoming season. Consistency was about 80% there this month, which I’m pretty happy with given I’ve had some haphazard weekends in between football, a training camp and an unplanned marathon. Was actually pretty happy with the latter- I’ve never run one before and got talked into entering a few days before, so I’d just planned to run-walk it given my long runs have only been about 16k for the last few months. Managed to snag a BQ at a pretty conversational pace, but mostly I’m pretty stoked to have run the whole way lol.
Rounding out the winter with duathlon state champs (hopefully not as unsuccessfully as the first 2) before hopefully lifting the bike/run volumes and taking the swim off the back-burner in preparation for a local 70.3 in November. If that turns out well it may finally be IM summer…

I saw that too

Ok so the plan was going well but in the Uk there are always some leaves available to fall on the train line. To really stuff it up.
There is now a train strike on the day that I’ve paid to get to Weymouth for my first 70.3. It’s my ONLY mode of transport that can get me to the start line.

Hey gang and @JoeX

Not much to report on my part, it’s not even been 3 weeks since Copenhagen. I took 5 full days of zero working out before I sat on the bike again. Since then I’ve been enjoying zero structure activities and reduced volume. Short runs or Zwift rides, will go back to the pool tomorrow, but all without any explicit goal in mind. I’ll propbably do some more trail riding as long as the weather permits. I don’t feel like I am ready yet to commit to a new project and Lahti is too far in the future. Proper 70.3 training will probably resume in early 23, until then I’ll try to not get fat and enjoy family and couch time.

Yeah, I just heard about that. Bad luck.

Lot of sporting events cancelled for 10 days mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II death yesterday.

It is not sure if Ironman Wales is going ahead.

Yes. Similar for Weymouth next weekend.

The rail strikes mentioned above have been cancelled.

@Mgalex

Can get there but the race might not happen…they really could’ve planned ahead for this. Everyone else has.

Thanks @JoeX and @MK_2 . i am aware . I’d managed to arrange a lift from Cardiff with a fellow Weymouth entrant. It would be ironic if the train strike was cancelled allowing me to get to Weymouth but be unable to race.

I hope that this doesn’t seem selfish but I believe that letting both IM Wales and Weymouth 70.3 go ahead should be the best way to go. i can’t think of any better way to honour The queen than by having 3,000 triathletes do a minutes silence before showing our respect an resilience by charging headlong into the Bristol and English Channels. But that’s just me. RIP Elizabeth R

I’ve heard that the London to Brighton bike ride is on, which is a higher profile event I think.

On the other hand girls hockey has been cancelled this weekend.
