Is anyone doing IMVR1 this weekend?
2021 series is starting, unless aim missing something it’s accepting any outdoor, Zwift or Rouvy 40km data.
I did a virtual 40k TT a few weeks ago so I’m not uo for another yet ![]()

@JoeX I registered and will have to do Thursday or Friday as I head off skiing on Saturday. Doing it in Rouvy.
VR1 is just a 40k ride, no?
27 years old here and competing in Tulsa. That Kona slot is MINE!
Yeah. Ive got 70mins tempo with Leavitt +2 I. Friday so I will probably dual run with Zwift to tick the box but I won’t be racing.
Chicken soup and milkshakes were my friends for about a month once upon a time.
Remember:
Sending healing vibes your way!
The more I’ve thought about the reason of why I like racing and why I continue this lifestyle of training; The competition, and being able to fight for top positions. I may have gotten a late start but I truly believe I can achieve pro qualification (albeit BOP pro) I’ve been considering another IM brand race early this season.
I’ve been telling myself that I can just do the more local 70.3s to save money but its almost a sure thing I get top 5 overall. I really want to see where I stack up to a larger field so I just finished a cost analysis of
St George, Haines City FL, and Galveston TX.
Galveston is the most expensive due to lodging. St G has the longest flight and cloest to airport/airbnd/venue and Florida is cheapest but meh to me because its florida.
Napkin math comes out to ~$1k for Reg, car, lodge, flight for each.
Any experience with these venues?
St George (personally my favorite as im a high w/kg rider, but not a fan of running hills) will be the WC location so there are 2 ways to think about that one. #1 Practice for the WC race, or #2 dont do this one because you’ll be back for the WC. It’s also the prettiest imo.
Galveston looks like the absolute fastest bike split as there are no turns except for the turn around.
I did Florida a few years ago, that was my first 70.3. I’m not up to date whether the course has changed, it was a fairly flat ride back then, with just a few rollers. Not ugly, as a Northern European I enjoyed the orange orchards in April. The run course was not entirely flat either, the loop had an incline that took many by surprise. But being a three loop through residential areas there was a good vibe all along the course, hardly any quiet corners. The swim course is a bit weird, it’s an M-shaped out and almost back and out again, but otherwise unremarkable. Also, something something alligators.
The race had more of a local vibe and did not feel like a big international race, probably because there wasn’t a pro field. It is hosted in a community park, you park your car on residential streets. I enjoyed it, but if you’re looking for a big event, this might not be it. Apart from the m-dot badge this is a small race. However, with your background there might be an overall top10 or better in the stars ![]()
So sorry to hear that, glad you came out relatively unharmed. It is scary how quickly things can go south at the blink of an eye. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery!
On behalf of everyone here I also apologize for the lack of empathy this forum has shown. Is your bike okay?
I assumed he sacrificed his face for the safety of the bike ![]()
Thanks Joe. I haven’t felt hugely fortunate over the last couple of weeks but as I’ve had time to think (very slowly) about what happened I think I probably am and that you are right.
I’m glad somebody had the decency to ask about the bike
I haven’t actually got the it back yet but should do soon and am led to believe it’s OK. I obviously also need to be able to download the Garmin file to prove it actually happened ![]()
But of course… ![]()

For real! As I lay on the road waiting for an ambulance, I asked a police officer to retrieve my Garmin off my bike. Police took the bike to the police station. I took my Garmin to the ER !
True story ![]()
Get well soon bru ![]()
Best of luck to you! Fortunately with Tulsa being the North American Championships, there should be a few extra Kona slots to go around… But if I’m being realistic, I think it’s quite a stretch for me this year. Would love to do it but I think it’s wiser for me to think long term and maybe try to qualify a few years down the road.
Look forward to competing with you!
Completed IMVR1 by accident today so my 90min over under session is on the record ![]()
A 50yo guy is leading with 49:18 so…yeah.
Ouch sorry to hear about the crash! Glad you are okish though and taking it easy to come back. It looks like that body needs quite a lot of healing! I hope the bike had a better time than you…
Thanks for the tips on the running side of things I’ll play with it once I start putting more volume and five my feedback!
Needed 30 more mins to complete mine but bagged it - decided to play football(soccer) with the kids instead - sunny and 8C, couldnt resist time with them and weather. Next week will be in the neg.teens windy but loads of fun skiing.
Happy New Year everyone. I enjoyed lurking on this thread last year, but never posted anything.
I was signed up for CDA 70.3 and Washington 70.3 in 2020. I deferred the CDA race to the 2021 St. George 70.3 in May and stuck with the Washington 70.3 race.
I did a few sprints and one Olympic distance race before a car accident put a hold on my training and I had kids. 10+ years later I’m hoping COVID cooperates so that I can get those two 70.3’s in this year in addition to some shorter races in easy driving distance. I did do one sprint distance race in August 2019.
Biking seemed like an area that I had a lot of room for improvement in so I joined TrainerRoad to help with that and have been using it for about 9 months now.
I’m currently using the Half Distance Mid Volume Plan as built by Plan Builder around those two 70.3 race dates of May 1 and September 21.
