The Ironman Training 2021 Thread

No ideas yet. They hinted that’ll come later; I’d be happy to get anything. I don’t know how deferrals work when it’s a race day cancellation. Kinda regret that Canada registration I did a few nights ago, lol. might be doing two fulls 3 weeks apart in 22  honestly what I’d love is a 22 STG slot, but I doubt they’d do that. I was planning on registering for that but procrastinated too long and it went WC.

I’m gonna track down some ramen though!

Thanks for the info, sent some emails so we’ll see. And found where you see the slots - can you see who has filled them/if they got filled? I get that they want people at the awards so there is a crowd and the podiums are filled (again, I actually was there), but is there a reason they require the payment registration in person?

Great attitude. Such a bummer for all the athletes, and for Sacramento. Seems like the right call for sure, at home currently in the east bay and it hasn’t stopped dumping or blowing super hard. Not sure the ramen joints will be open just yet !

Just found out a woman from our old Tri club nabbed a slot and it was weeks after her race, so you may still be able to get a slot.

And she was down in the 20’s for her AG, I think……but IM traditionally has more trouble filling women’s slots vs. Men’s so that makes sense.

Good luck!!

If you didn’t get to compete in Sacramento, but are in the area… this is next Saturday not too far away… Schedule - ALPHA WIN

No problem. And no, I don’t think there is any where to see who took spots. So most likely they do the slots after the awards, so it can be a long wait to go through all the podiums and talks. They mainly require the payment right there to secure your spot because they want your money. But Ironman also know there are plenty of people behind you waiting with their credit cards if you don’t want to pay.

Thanks Joe. First Tri done, super happy

6:12:52 with a crash in the bike course, I take that.

I’m hooked, already thinking about the next one and how I can get a new PB

Thanks all the TR forum gang for all the questions answered, info and support, it’s been priceless.

Nice job! Hopefully nothing too serious from the crash!

Well done, tracked you up to the start of the run - looks like you had pretty consistent pacing there.

IM Cascais done and dusted!

Swim:

Race time: 1:12 !!! 4 minutes faster than the predicted mid point

Bike:

Race time: 5:58 !!! 2 minutes faster than the predicted mid point

Run:

Race time: 3:48 !!! 8 minutes slower than the predicted mid point

The run course was harder than what I expected but in general I got my projection right since the other two somehow compensated.

Not a brilliant execution but solid enough to be spot on with what my pre race fitness data was revealing.

Long transitions gave a final time on the 11:10 mark.

Next post I will do a proper, but summarized, race report.

Thanks again for the inspiration, help and magnificent ideas coming from this thread!

Just my leg with some scratches, and of course my ego. Bike was ok, and I was able to carry on, so I got lucky.

@JoeX thanks so much for the support and good energy. It really means a lot.

@Nprazeres congrats on the race, hopefully one day I’ll join you and do the full

Congrats and have a great recovery. Hopefully in a few days you will remember this race more for the good stuff and less for the bad.

About doing my 3rd ironman, today is not for sure the best day to talk about that!

In a sentece:It hurts and I’m too fast twitch for that sh#t!

My benchmarked power duration places me on the high end until 60 seconds and gets lower and lower as time increases.

I can mask the lack of genetic capacity with good training and very decent race execution but the limit is there and it is real.

Horses for courses as they say…

They were pretty quick with the deferral options. I’m calling it done for this season, and I’m trying to keep May open for a half or two.

I’m already signed up for Canada 22.

Right now, I’m leaning California again, Chattanooga, or Arizona. If I do Chatt I’d have one month between races, California I’d have two months, and Arizona three. Obviously AZ is the best option for actual fitness (though that’s deep into indoor training season for me.) I’ve done Chatt as a duathlon and enjoyed it, so I’ve got some unfinished business there. I don’t know much about PCB.

Just watching reality tv with my newfound free time; any suggestions crew?

Drive To Survive on Netflix….I never watched F1 racing before in my life and this series got me hooked on it.

Personally I would get it done in November if I could. You’ve done put in the hours, reap the reward. If not, Texas/Tulsa a good three months before Canada.

Agreed with Joe….if you can find accommodations, I’d look at IMFL. Get a solid week of training in this week, an easy week next and then race.
