The Ironman Training 2021 Thread

I used virtual power for a good chunk of those years before getting my Assioma’s - - worked great for me thankfully!

Yeah I wasn’t familiar with speed sensors and Al that malarkey so once I got it set up properly it was fine. I got Powertap pedals primarily for race pacing, but it was a step up in consistency too,

Did they have tri plans back then?

I can’t remember if the tri plans were there yet, but they did come pretty early on. I know I started with good ol’ LV SweetSpot Base though. :grinning:

Did you just not take your worlds spot? I looked at the allocation and there was 6 spots giving to M 35-39. So 4th should have gotten you a spot. Just wondering what happened because I’m going for a spot at Oceanside next weekend.

Has Mark Allen lost it?

Looks like he’s had this alter ego going for a year now!

This was something else…

The hills in this place are angry… Most of them are ok… And you can get enough momentum from the downhill to climb the next one… But there are like 4… Jesus! Easiest gear, 50 rpm, 350w… Had to stand… Going like 5 mph… You add that it was ridiculously hot, and man… tough race…

Overall happy with the results.

39.11 swim… Slightly slower than my expectations… Was looking for 35, but I’ll take this.

T1 was a mess… Super long and really didn’t feel like running much… Almost 5 minutes :man_facepalming:

Bike was 42 tough miles. Lots of hills… Not much flat. 169 average power… 199 normalized power… Not super happy with this, room for improvement here …

Run was hot and slow… Walked all the water stations, lots of Gatorade, ice on the back. Cramping badly on mile 4. A total shit show… 1.06.14 (8.3 mile run)

So close to break 4… Finish time was 4.00.23

Happy with the results… I think I’m ready for an half ironman

I just assumed because I got no notification I didn’t. I went to the podium ceremony, but that didn’t seemed to just be for the event awards… Shouldn’t I have gotten an email if so?! Gah, this is my first Tri, no idea how this works! I saw someone on Strava post a photo of an email confirming their entry…

Oops

Nice work Joel - you are totally ready

?! Feel like a total idiot, like I didn’t read the instructions, but I did, but however this worked at the awards wasn’t clear. @JustinDoesTriathlon How’d you see how many got allocated per age group. Am I totally SOL? Could be the difference of buying a tri bike or not🤦‍♂️ .

At this point, yes you are SOL. You have to claim your spot on site, in person during the award ceremony.

Bummer…but based on your results, you’ll have plenty of other opportunities to nab a slot. :sunglasses:

If you have the means, there is absolutely no reason to not get a proper tri bike.

If you are not going to do a time trial, then also consider triathlon specific bikes (that you wouldn’t be able to use on a time trial)…

Based on your times, you will make it to worlds… Don’t worry about it

@JustinDoesTriathlon how’s the weather. Looking like tomorrow may not happen?

On the ground it feels great here. If you didn’t have a radar you wouldn’t suspect a thing. I’m just waiting for my dinner to get to my table and trying to ignore it. :slightly_smiling_face:
