Well I actually misspoke- I was in the high Volume plan prepping for IM Tulsa in May, then use Plan Builder after deferring to IM MD and chose the highest volume option. Mianzimu was scheduled 2 weeks ago in week 7 of the build phase, and again tomorrow in week 1 of specialty. But I didn’t actually do Mianzimu two weeks ago, just went for a long outdoor ride trying to get similar TSS.
I’m leaning towards trying the mental challenge of a 5 hour indoor ride… I’ve been fortunate to have many great weekend long rides, and to be honest doing another 100 mi outdoors doesn’t really excite me, especially in the rain. Indoors could be a whole new mental challenge. And the tdf starts tomorrow, I could “ride the stage” with them
Mark Allen is cool! He was winning Kona when I first started getting into the sport.
Good luck with your virtual race! I know that you trained hard for Barcelona. It’s good that there is an outlet for you. I look forward to reading your race report.
i wanted to get the finisher medal for the 70.3 one i did… think it was VR16 championship division, but shipping to the UK was insane… think it worked out to something like £50 for the medal all in
In the past, I’ve been successful holding my ftp steady with only 2-2.5hrs biking. Mount Field and Antelope. It doesn’t take much. My guess is that it works the same way for swim. 2x2k swim
I much rather do 5hr on trainer than 100 outside. Movies, poker, fan, AC, bathroom, kitchen all at fingertips. But if you’re close to an event, it’s good to do a little outdoor riding. I usually do something like Tower or Gibraltar outdoors for specificity.
I’m much different than you. Been doing all of my long rides outdoors, for me 100 mi in 6 hours is much easier and more enjoyable than 5 hr indoors on the trainer. That’s part of the reason I chose to do this one inside, I wasn’t sure if I could do it. Watching stage 1 of the TDF did help a lot though
I did 3hrs yesterday (Big Mountain) just as stage 2 started. Almost felt guilty getting off after 3hrs while seeing the guys on TV carrying on LOL. But I totally agree with you; actually was very enjoyable.
I did a 3:15 or 3:30 once. Mentally just dreadful, but holy crap, I can see the value if you’re able to consistently do them. That’s a hell of a workout, and makes the equivalent time on the road seem like nothing (even at the same power when pedaling.) The relentlessness of indoors really stacks up as time increases
So I just ordered a Stryd wind running powermeter, and I’m thinking of how to best integrate it in my running. As a beginner, I’ve been focusing on my aerobic base for the last 4/5 months, doing 3 runs/week at Z2 (about 25k/week), with great results so far and no injuries.
I’m thinking of adopting the BarryP plan, while doing the TR Olympic Tri MV plan. First only doing easy/Z2 runs, and then adding 1 tempo run/week.
Anyone here has experience with the stryd powermeter? How did you adopt it into your training? Any tips on how to use it with the BarryP plan?
I think my max on trainer is 5 hours and was ready to get off. Last weekend I did almost 3:52 doing the mega pretzel Zwift route badge. Could have done it faster with a TR workout pacing me but rather ride to experience the virtual hills on my N2T at 100% trainer difficulty.
Did my first ever open water swim on on the bank holiday. Surprised how well it went after the initial nerves. It was slow but i did the distance and had plenty of energy left. Guess i actually need to work on swim speed now.
Also tried my clip on bars for the first time at an outdoor track. Speed went up and i felt good in the position. Regret not buying Di2 now, it would be wonderful to be able to change gears from the aero bars and would stop me getting tempted to buy a tt bike.
