You’re saying you can dissolve 8 cups of sugar in a liter of water by shaking a bottle?
You’ll need a big bottle, time and a lot of shaking, but yes.
I’ll do it before every ride then!
I use tap water first of all. It doesn’t dissolve immediately but as long as you shake it a few times over the the course of 5 min, it’s fine. Most rides I’m only using 1/2 cup of sugar. My point was that it mixes. I usually prep my water bottle first. Shake it a few times, then get dressed. As I’m getting my bike ready I just shake a few more times. By the time I’m actually riding and need to take some carbs, it’s fully dissolved. And if you’re adding malto like I do, mix the sugar and malto dry first and shake. Then add the water. This minimizes the malto from clumping. The sugar grains seems to separate the malto.
In addition, I find that filling the bottle half way induces a bit more violence inside than if you were shaking a mostly full bottle. Warm water helps. Then ice. If you’re getting closer to making a syrup, you should probably be prepping this well ahead of time with actual hot water and stirring the sugars in.
I was thinking seriously of making/trying sweet tea for my bottles. caffeine + sugar. Added benefit the boiling water makes the sugar disolve easily.
@michelleihowe, I have found your people.
PS. A half scoop of raspberry iced tea powder in 100-400g sugar + mostly sodium citrate and a dash of table salt is my favorite flavor lately.
