Team Table Sugar - recommendations for flavour?

I’m a recent convert to using table sugar, plus sodium citrate, in my bottles (convinced by @Dr_Alex_Harrison, among others). Any recommendations for flavouring, just for the sake of having some different tastes? I’ve been using a bit of Gatorade powder for this purpose, but I would like to hear some other options.

Also, contrary as to what’s been said on the podcast a few times, I have no problem at all with mixing table sugar at all in my bottles - just need some water in the bottle first before adding the sugar.

Thanks!

I use this lime flavoring in my home mix. They also have a lemon version and I usually do a teaspoon of both lemon and lime in each gallon of mix I make.

I’ve been using the concentrated flavorings, like Mio, that come in the little squirt bottles. Can use as much or as little, and they come in a whole bunch of flavors. I don’t use much, because I don’t want too much sweetness.

As a bonus, if I have bottles with and without carbs, I’ll only put the flavor in the carb bottles so I’ll know immediately (and see the color if I unscrew the cap for bottles I make up the night before) which one I have.

I started with Gatorade and after a while I realized I preferred just sugar and sodium.

I add a fizzy electrolyte tablet and they have all sorts of flavours.

I can’t be certain that it helps but I enjoy the placebo effect :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Pre workout, currently orange, I think next tub is blueberry lemonade

I use a little powdered gatorade or a squirt of fresh lemon juice if it’s handy.

I put a scoop of Skratch hydration and 6 tblsp of sugar = 90g of carbs.
That lime flavor posted above seems like a cheaper idea. I save money using sugar, but then buy an expensive electrolyte mix. To me it’s worth it, no added colors and tastes good. I hate the taste of artificial electrolyte mixes.

Old school Kool Aid here. I add 1 packet per cup of sugar. Huge variety of flavors @ around $0.30 a packet.

I put a little lemon and lime juice (roughly a 2:1 ratio) in my Carbs Fuel.

I use lemon or lime juice. I don’t like the flavor of the “true” crystals at all.

Bulk Powders’ Liquiflav drops. 8 drops in a 500ml bottle, 12 drops in a 750ml bottle. Dirt cheap, very flavourable, lasts for years. Banana’s my favourite, followed by strawberry and raspberry.

Strawberry powder and citric acid (like Skratch labs strawberry lemonade).

Sea salt, it has more flavour than sodium citrate

I use the Country Time Lemonade powder to flavor my maltodextrin and sodium citrate mix.

So funny that all it takes is some electrolytes and the big red jug busting through walls is athlete fuel.

I use this:

and it even tastes awesome warm! It’s a great flavor; not too sweet and really, really refreshing and palatable. I got 2 bottles at Costco after seeing the Tour riders downing cherrynjuice post stage. There is a fair amount of research as to recovery benefits from the Cherry Juice so I thought; why not??? It’s been awesome!

Been doing 4 tablespoons table sugar, 3 tablespoons maltodextrine, teaspoon and some extra of sodium citrate, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Water. Shake. Ice. Ride.
