Basically what the title says. I’m currently on a rtp Tarmac Sl8 and have absolutely loved it. Weighs in at just under 15lbs/6.8kg, though the enve 2.3’s probably help with that. Specd with Roval rapide and old red. I really enjoy having such a light bike and overall ride quality is just great. However, I have the opportunity to get a 2025 project one Trek Madone for a great price. The build is the basic SLR black with the new e1 red. Reasons for switching would be the new sram red and what I perceive as more aero, though most of that would probably be from the deeper wheels, and I will be keeping the enve 2.3s from my Tarmac. My apprehension is mostly due to the weight penalty. In reality a few hundred grams probably is meaningless, but I would love to be under 7kg. Aesthetically I think both bikes look awesome and the Madone sounds like it has good ride quality. I would love to hear your thoughts and if anyone had experience with the two.
Thanks!
The Trek will not make you appreciably faster.
This is 100% a “want” issue……ultimately, you are the only one who can answer the question. If you want it and can afford it, have at it.
Your other option would be to just upgrade the shifters on your current bike and get new wheels.
The Trek looks better IMO. I still don’t like the look of the SL8. Probably the biggest reason I sold mine. And realizing that being super light isn’t everything. If you just want something new and can afford it, go for the Trek. Although I’d have gone for the white with gold logos.
Just keep the Tarmac and get the Trek.
Problem solved
Depends on what kind of cycling you do the tarmac is more and all rounder, good for climbing and desending where as the madone is more flat speedster.
The trek is ugly as hell, stick with the Tarmac. You aren’t getting any performance benefit by switching.
