Agreed, if the wait is much longer than early September it’ll likely push me to the Emonda, TCR, or just to hold of until spring.
The new Emonda frame looks really nice actually, and at sub 700g, is actually lightweight.
The thing with the new emonda is only high end builds are really worth considering.
The emonda sl5 and sl6 for example are disgustingly heavy and you’d be better of with a similar priced tcr and hopefully the tarmac aswell.
I agree I would go with the high end Emonda frame also, but the same could be said for the Tarmac. The Emonda SLR frame is 700g and the SL is 1100g. I believe the outgoing Tarmac is 1100g also, so not lighter comparatively. The SWorks is like 850g.
The entrance fee into an SWorks frame or bike is much higher than the SLR though. 4.5k for a frame or 11k for a bike, versus 3.7k for a frame and 6.7k for an SLR. As for the TCR, I personally wouldn’t spend 3.2k for a Giant frame or over 8k for a bike. I’m sure it rides well, but it’s personal taste.
I agree but i was not referring to the different frames but mainly the heavy components (saddle, tires, wheels etc.) fitted to these cheaper versions.
Buying a bike for many, is more about emotion than logic. So if you love the colors and have the money–go for it. That said, until I can honestly say that I can’t lose another kilo, then I find it hard to justify the high prices of the SLR or S-works. Otherwise, I’m paying thousands more to compensate for my own lack of fitness.
Frankly, there’s nothing more satisfying for me, then giving a casual “good morning” to some pudgy rich guy on a 13k bike as I pass him going up a climb.
That’s true, not sure what they’re thinking there with the components spec. A new Emonda at the 105 level is over 20 lbs without pedals…what…? Not sure what the comparable Tarmac would be, but probably not that heavy.
Was holding out for the Tarmac Pro (Sram) but on seeing reports of a $1500+ price increase, a 1x config on that model, and uncertain shipping timelines, I pulled the trigger on the equivalent Canyon Ultimate ($2k less for similar specs and 2x). It gets here this afternoon!
If the Tarmac is going to take until Nov/Dec to arrive, I’ll probably do the same.
I’d not be surprised if that is the case. From what I have seen on the Trek side, we are nowhere near early or easy availability of bikes that we have seen in the past. CV-19 is still showing itself in the delays and more sparse product on hand in the near term.
its goes down the drain… i will wait for my lbs, he have said he will have them on time but im not 100% sure.
On the top of that, depends on the country it seems we gonna be indoors again thanks to the Covid so maybe i could really enjoy the bike next year, for spring time so i don’t know if its worth it to wait that long.
Everyone is conscious of the impact that CV-19 is having on every aspect of life right now and everyone is prepared to be more forgiving as a result. However, it’s on the part of the manufacturer to set proper expectations with their retailers to ensure they can properly set expectations with the end customer. It’s a really bad look for Specialized if they’re letting the retailer believe he can get me a bike in 2 weeks when he placed the order, only for the customer to give him a heads up that it might actually take four months.
Agreed. As mentioned, Trek is showing current estimates for various bike, and typically holding those if you back order at that moment. Not sure how Specialized is doing it and what the retailer has access too? As usual, some retailers may be looking at the data and making different plans or statements to customers.
Anyone pushing a particularly optimistic view that doesn’t align with the source data (however detailed it is or is not) may be making bad name for them and the main brand.
Completely - at this point it’s too early to say and I’ll reserve final judgement until this time next week. For now all we have to go on are comments from people in this thread who are being told their bike will be delayed by 2-4 months. I checked with my retailer today and he’s gone from expecting delivery by the launch date to not knowing when it will arrive.
I’m still hoping that by some weird chain of events that I end up getting my bike in a couple of weeks but that hope is dwindling daily.
I wanted a Venge. But they simply don’t exist any longer. No dealers have them on the floor, Spec Australia have nothing other than an s-work frame in just one size that’s two sizes too big for me. Can’t even get SL6’s really any more in Australia, such has been the impact of people buying bikes as a direct result of COVID-19.
So any release of the SL7 is being keenly awaited… but it sounds like between price hikes and limited stock there’s a big question mark in my head.
Right now if I could get my hands on a 2020 Venge Pro I’d do it. I’m actually hoping there’s someone local (aus) who’ll be upgrading to an SL7 from a recent Venge and I’ll grab the hand-me-down sale.
Yeah that’s the harsh reality. Like another poster said a bike purchase isn’t logical. I still want a tarmac with a pretty paint job. Canyon Ultimate doesn’t do it for me and I’ll end up paying so much more for a custom build ![]()
Does anyone who ordered the bike actually know the specs before they placed their order? What’s the weight difference between the sworks sl6 and sworks venge? Yes, I love my venge!
No. People complain about the delay of a product that they don’t even know in detail. I expect quite some disappointment once we see the specifications. More areo and threaded BB will come at a weight penalty. Not sure if everyone is aware of that. Aero is king, so it will still be a good bike I guess.
I was told: no weight difference To SL6 (6.8 kg in 56cm Sworks), but with aero gains.
Hm, I thought the SL6 was 6.6kg in size 56.
