Same here. Always had a new bike thru the shop I worked at. And I do enjoy new bikes but new tech is coming out at such a blistering rate that it’s hard to keep up. Kind a like cell phones. It’s incremental gains although stacked in many years leads to bigger gains.
My SL5 pro disc is made out of the same carbon as the incoming SL7, Fact 10r Carbon.
Despite the images of the SL7 to whet the appetite I’m having a hard time convincing myself paying out substantially north of £6k for a revised frame with no discernible improvement in running gear.
But then there’s no pockets in a shroud and life’s for living.
Back in ’81 I was 17 and a competitive (amateur) racer, having to pay my own racing gear. My idol Fons De Wolf (pro) won Milaan - San Remo on a GIOS TORINO. I WANTED THAT BIKE. With the prizes I won I was able to buy that same bike equiped with the best (then…) : CAMPA Record, Cost : just under a 1.000Eur. Now I am earning a good living, but find it difficult to buy the Milaan – San Remo winnars’ gear …
I was worried something like this would happen but still seems strange that they’d press on with a release if they can’t ship until winter.
Also strange for it only to be the Specialized flagship race bike to be impacted in this way while Trek, BMC, Scott are all able to ship, and Specialized have shipped multiple other new models already this year.
About a month ago I called my local Cannondale dealer to see when I could get a Supersix HM and their supplier had the same time frame. I ended up ordering an in-stock Madone instead a week later. Not disappointed in the slightest bit with the purchase but Specialized isn’t the only one.
This is not new. I experienced the same thing when I ordered by SL6 frameset at launch. I ordered as soon as I could in July and the frame arrived in Nov.
I’ve been waiting to see what happens with Spesh, BMC and other 2021 bikes but my backup plan is a particular spec TCR - that’s due in the UK on 17th October.
They did have some of that model available at launch though, it just sold out very quickly.
I’m sure we will just have to wait and see, but I believe I’ve got my eyes set on the expert model. In the past, have there been equal delays across the ranges? I would imagine they manufacture much less S-Works frames
I placed my order for the Expert a week ago and the dealer seemed to think we’d get it close to launch with the fact he told me if I changed my mind and wanted the Pro instead, I had about a day to do it before they shipped the wrong bike. I’ve asked if he has any idea on delivery date and will update once I hear.
It’s possible that @Flo1992’s issue is a European issue, or specific to the S-Works model/Dura Ace models
Placed my order about the same time last Monday for the pro and as of now it’s showing late August early Sept. Initially it showed on or before release.
That’s about as far as I’d be prepared to wait without changing my mind and going for something else. I was hoping I’d get at least half of August with it, but I’ve waited 4 months to place this order, I can wait another 4-6 weeks to get it. Receiving it in November means I’m basically buying for next season and there’s little value in paying for something I won’t use for 4-5 months.
I probably should have just ordered the SL6 Expert back in March/April. And I probably would have if I COVID hadn’t made getting a bike fit impossible.
