Stem recommendation with hose openings on bottom?

Just got a few bike (yay!) and installed a Zipp service course stem with Zipp XPLR 70 bars. I love that the bars can have reasonably hidden hoses and allow aero clip ons.

I’m trying to find a stem that would have an opening on the bottom for the brake hoses so they can run out through the red highlighted channels. This should clean up the look quite a bit and get the hoses more out of the way for the clip on aero bars. I’m stumped trying to find a stem that would work. The only one I can think of is the Conceal stem (like on my Cannondale SuperSix) but that probably wouldn’t be the cleanest look with the round spacers.

Any tips are appreciated!!

I just ordered the FSA Energy stem for this reason.

Interesting…thanks! I’d be curious to see your setup when you have it installed. It looks like hoses would have to fit in this small notch so I’m a little worried that could lead to kinking them  but to be fair that’s just from looking at a pic or 2 online without it in my hands to see.

I have this on my bike with full internal cabling but gives many options.

I really like the Bontrager RCS Pro Stem for this use case, but I don’t think it works with standard spacers/ headset cap, Trek has some proprietary stuff there.

This would be going on a Gen 3 Checkpoint and looks to be compatible. Thanks for the tips! Going to look into this a bit more.

I took a regular aluminum stem/bar combo and drilled appropriate holes and routed things myself. Here’s some pics, everything worked fine.

Edit: The bars are Profile Design DRV/AEROA which have holes built in near the hoods for internal routing, I didn’t drill those myself.

If you’re going to do that… .you need to make the corners round. The 90deg corners concentrate stress.

That is a chancy modification. As mentioned the corners of the port are stress risers but aside from that cutting a large port into a structure never meant for it that is under stress in every direction is scary. I hope it serves you reliably.

Notch is even smaller in person - stem was delivered today. Think I might actually send it back as I’m a bit nervous for kinks also.

I was under the impression that the FSA SCR stuff was only for DI2 routing and hiding a junction box in the stem. It’s a fairly old design if memory serves.

Yep it’s for di2 and not brake hoses :joy: I did not look closely before ordering it.
