Stages Power Meter faults after firmware update

Hi Rob

Do you mean the ANT+ ID is still showing as 1 and you aren’t able to calibrate it ?

I would get in touch with Stages again, I got the feeling that they may have had more reports of this since you spoke to them last and have decided to allow end users to access the developer menu which basically allows you to manually change all the values in the power meter (ANT+ ID, slope, device type etc)

I would post the instructions here, but to be honest they were specific about the settings I needed to change, and it wouldn’t want to post the details here and people to end up bricking their power meters.

At least if you are doing it under the instruction of support and something does go wrong, they will resolve it for you.

Is anybody else having trouble with the secret swipe on iOS? I have tried RLR 3 times, RL 3 times and loads of other combinations. What am i missing?

Thanks

Hi, not sure if this is the right topic.
Anyone else noticed some power changes with the left only Crank? My stages was pretty much always showing 10% more power than my tacx flux S.
Since the last update (about 2 weeks ago) it seems the difference is much less now (maybe 3-5%)
Just wondering if it is coincidence or if someone else could see that too?

I have the LR R8000 dual stages powermeter. I can’t pair the cranks because the STAGESPOWER app identifies the left crank as right, recognizing both cranks but both cranks as right. Could you share how to access developer options please? my connecting rod is no longer under warranty and stages has not answered me yet. if you don’t want to share that information in the forum, please, do it to my email: jabped@hotmail.com . Thank you!!

I’ll post the details here but please note these were given to me by Stages support under a support ticket raised by me in September 2020 in relation to a Stages LR Ultegra Power Meter, where the left power meter would not work after a failed firmware update, I don’t know if they were specific to my particular unit or can be applied to any of their power meters, so you use these AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Hopefully they may help:

  1. Open the StagesPower app and pair with your power meter.

  2. Once paired, swipe quickly left then right across the home screen being sure to lift your finger between swipes as shown below. This will bring up a list of firmware versions.

  1. Select version v.0.10.345 from the list.

  1. Wait one minute after the firmware update is complete, then remove and reinstall the battery.

  2. Connect to the power meter again, tap “No” if it prompts another firmware update, and go to the “Tools” page. Check that the data has been restored (ANT ID is not 1, crank length and slopes are not 0). Please send me a screenshot of the Tools page at this point.

  3. After checking “Tools”, reconnect to the power meter and tap “Yes” for the prompted firmware update.

Once the second firmware update completes, double check your tools data to ensure the changes have been made.

Developer Mode (this can only be done an iOS as far as I am aware)

Again these may be specific to my particular model/unit so use these AT YOUR OWN RISK

  1. Open the Stages Power app on your iOS device, please ensure the device is not in dark mode, and swipe downward four times on the ‘Connect with Bluetooth’ screen as shown below.

  2. Enter the developer mode password ‘givemeoptions’

  3. Select your left power meter and connect.

  4. Once paired, tap on ‘Tools’.

  5. The tools page should now be editable. Please enter the following information into the corresponding field:

ANT+ ID: 39243 (this will be printed on the sticker attached to your power meter)
PCB Orientation: 1 (should be set already)
Device Type: ROAD Left
Crank Length: 165
Slope: 0.02062341
Temp Slope: -1.361316
DPOT/DAC: 44
The remaining fields can be left as zeros.

Once you have edited the details, back out to the ‘Connect with Bluetooth’ screen and swipe downward four times once more to exit developer mode.

Next, lets perform a hard reset of the meter to lock the new data in. Using the rounded edge of the battery, bridge to the positive and negative terminals for around 20 seconds. This will short circuit the board and should wake up the meter. Below is an example of the hard reset being performed.

Once you have performed the hard reset, please install a brand new battery pair with the StagesPower app and confirm that the tools data has been edited. If they have, please perform a zero reset. Please send in a screenshots of both your tools and zero reset at this point.

If the left power meter is all set at this point, back out to the ‘Connect with Bluetooth’ screen, pair with both power meters, go back in to the tools section and select link at the bottom of the page to re-pair the two power meters as a L/R unit.
