Sore Throat but everything else feels great!

My fitness is progressing well, but have had a sore throat for three days now; otherwise, I feel great. No other symptoms, legs are fresh, and cardio feels fine. I know I should stay off any exercises in consideration of the sore throat, but have others continued to train with it without issues? I am trying to minimize the loss of my fitness.

Hard to say without know what the problem is. If you actually have an infection of some kind (actually sick), pushing through can hurt the long term recovery. If it’s just raw from mouth breathing in dry/cold air or from allergies, I usually just push through and it’s good. Sometimes hard to tell the difference unless you know certain pollens, etc. set it off.

I hate when this happens. You wont loose fitness by taking a day or two off and then a day or two easy. If you have been training well then it will most likely be good for your fitness. You will more likely loose fitness if you loose 10 days of training from being sick. Throat is often the ‘first line of defence’ so its is likely that your body is dealing with something. When this happens to me I make sure to massage my neck and lymphs. Good luck!

Generally if it’s above the chest it’s okay to exercise but with caution. I’d be wary with a sore throat. I once carried on, and it sank into my chest and ended up needing 8 weeks to recover. It’s a general sign your body is a bit round down, so be cautious.

I think it was an allergic reaction. I rode a lot with some intensity on Saturday, did mostly endurance with sprints at the end on Sunday. Oh, also did weights right after the Sunday workout. The sore throat faded, and I still feel great! Thank you all for your perspective
