Rocky is a 5 year old Springer husky cross. Energetic boi who also likes to sleep and enjoys a bit of snow.
dachshund life…
We have a 2yo “wired” hair and a 17 yo smooth hair.
the 17 yo is not doing well… my wife and I are about to make a very hard decision about her. It break my heart just writing about it.
Dachshunds are great little dogs. 17 is a tremendous innings, but it’s always a hard decision. Our two are brothers - only seven. The brown one had to have a spine op for severe IVDD last year and as a result is paraplegic, and very slowly learning to walk again. It’s a long road for him, but on balance we think he enjoys his life and he’s showing enough progress with his hydrotherapy and other exercises that we think it’s worth giving him the chance at a reasonable recovery.
Bella, my 10yo GSD
She’s a great dog. My constant companion and the perfect mix of lazy and active so we mesh perfectly.
This is Kayce…20 month old Field Golden Retreiver…great little guy…he is only 65 lbs, eats like a horse and can run blazing fast.
Our smooth hair had an accident when she was 7… She slipped on our stairs and hit her back and broke a vertebrate. It was accidental ivdd if you will… So she had surgery and recovered 85% of mobility. She was slightly slower and she would wobble and dragged her paws a bit. But she would run like bat out of hell chasing the ball… She loved doing that… But then about 2 years ago we noticed her legs were not moving right and she would stumbled. She eventually became paralyzed and we have been expressing her bladder and let the other one do it’s things for the last year or more. The problem is that she refused to use the wheelchair and she would rather dragged herself. It’s not pretty right now. She is not even a shadow of what she was in her youth. Now she is blind, deaf and paralyzed. She has urine infections all the time. We treat it and it come back within 2 weeks…we can’t keep up… And not she is having a hard time keeping herself up… She can’t even stay up for long periods using her front legs… My wife and I said a while ago that when she couldn’t prop herself up, that was the time… And we feel that that time has come…
This was her 10 years ago

As it’s birthday season for Alex (14) and Nero (5) I thought a guest appearance in this thread was in order …
It’s a sad affliction. You feel you can get on top of the paralysis but the incontinence is the really nasty bit. He’s had a few persistent UTIs although we seem to be managing it OK at the moment. Fingers crossed for our respective hounds.
This is Frida, our newest pack member. She’s 100% purebred Costa Rican Zaguate. We got her July 2022 on our last trip to CR from Halfway Home. We had just put down one of our dogs(doggie dementia) and knew we were going home to put another down(lymphoma) when we got home.
She just turned 1 and is full of energy and loves to cause problems but she is also one of the most loving dogs I have ever had.
This is Harley, our Golden. He’s grown from 16 lbs (first pic) on January 24 to 40 lbs (second pic) on April 3! I expected him to be big but the rate of growth astounds me.
That’s a very handsome hound
Our latest Rover guest, Frida. On the couch, she thinks she’s a lap dog. A very loving and protective dog.
I was doing a workout in the paincave and she decides to lick old, spilled drink mix off of the floor under the bike. After she got bonked in the head twice by my pedals, I had to kick her out of the room
After the workout, while I’m stretching, she’s licking the salt off my bald head. Then while stretching my hip flexors, she lays down on my arms for a belly rub.
