Late to the party here but do you mind me asking what Kustom charged and what their turnaround time was like? It looks like they have done a stunning job.

Hi there, the pics don’t do the bike justice. The paint is an Audi brilliant white with a pearl/metallic finish. It almost glows in bright sunlight. The frameset was a very dull red before and I had this painted to be my winter bike at my Parents place in Central Portugal but it’s so well painted I’m a bit conflicted as to whether I should just use it as my summer bike only!

Tom at Kustom charged about £550 for the paintwork + postage. This is bike no.2 he’s done for me and the other one (see Holdsworth Competition higher up the thread) was about the same price. I think it’s worth the money if you are going to keep the bike. I have another frame booked in with him for February next year (Giant Defy Advanced SL ISP). The turnaround time if I’m honest was slower that I expected on the Holdsworth, but the Trek was about a month. I have to say though that I told Tom I was in no rush and he was crazy busy with Team bike work.

I have heard that Fat Creations can now turn bikes around faster but I’ve never used them. I’m happy to keep using Tom and to wait for him to do the work. As you can see the end result is worth it.

Hope that helps?

Jack

That is massively helpful, thank you. Being without the bike for a month might be a deal breaker for me, but on the plus side that’s cheaper than I imagined. And yours does look the business :+1:

I ride a Trek Emonda ALR. I like it more than I thought I would. The fit is probably the best part!

Just finished my 1st build this past weekend of a Bowman Palace 3. It was an awesome learning experience. Took it for 40 miles yesterday, rides lovely with 28mm tires…and nothing fell off. Rides way better than my 13yr old Tarmac.

This is a legitimate risk on any shakedown cruise.

There was some variation in the brake-bridge location and that was my problem. My only issue with the CAAD10 otherwise is that my CAAD12 is significantly better. But yeah, that paint on yours is fantastic.

Stoked to see this thread!
Here’s my SQUIDCROSS build with Easton EC90SL hoops. Big big fan of Aluminum right here. :v:

Very nice bikes, both of them. Could you tell a difference in ride-feel from disc vs. rim-brake? Which of the two did you prefer?

I didnt notice any difference in ride quality. Although I was faster in the mountains on the disc i think thats just a mental thing for me personally. I went disc originally because the writing is on the wall, thats the new standard. Having multiple sets of wheels just doesnt make sense. I dont think I will ever own another modern bike without disc brakes.
