Really like them. Solid value and performance. Factory valves and tubeless tape have been faff-free too.
No proprietary parts has made them really easy to live with.
Hunt were very responsive and helpful for customer support as well (received the wrong end-caps in the original order but they were quick to send out the correct ones).
That’s good to hear! I’m currently torn between their XC Wide or Trail Wide rims. The XC rims are 25mm internal compared to 30mm internal for the Trail rims, however, the XC wheelset is 1647g and the Trail wheelset is 1823g so about 176g difference between the two. The weight difference between the two isn’t huge imo, so I’m wondering if going to the wider wheel would be more beneficial than cutting a bit of extra weight. For context, they’ll be going on my 130f/120r Trek Fuel Ex that’s currently running the stock 23mm internal rims. They also have the “Race XC Wide” wheelset that’s a little bit more, but it’s even lighter at 1517g! I guess it’s good to have choices!
I use the bike on my Kickr v2 for all indoor training plus the odd crit race and commute. I own a Focus Izalco Max disc for all other riding.
Yeah, I think both the XC Wide and Trail Wide are appealing options.
I went for the XC Wide as the tyres I’m running are only 2.3", so I don’t need the extra rim width. Additionally, clearance might get a bit tight if the rims spread the tyre wider.
The Race XC option came out after I had bought my wheels, it looks like a nice wheelset. Would have been a difficult choice between this and the XC Wide ones.
Hey, I’ve driven that spiral road before!
I’ve been thinking about it and I think I’m going to go with the trail wides. Here’s my 2016 Fuel Ex 8 build that they’re going to go onto.
I’m basically a wheelset and crankset away from being done making this bike how I want it.
I had this bike built up for cross country racing for a number of years before I took all the good parts off of it to build a top fuel. Now I’m slowly putting it back together with more of a focus on just being set up for maximum fun at the trails.
Once I get different cranks and wheels she should be right at 29 lbs with pedals which won’t be too bad at all for a kind of budget aluminum trail bike build.
What are the components on that? 13 pounds seems stupid light.
Sram red 22 mechanical, Zipp 202 tubs, speedplay Ti pedals, Bontrager XXX bars, Bontrager brakes, Jagwire Elite link cables, all Ti hardware. I’m missing some parts but I did indeed put some effort into the bike’s weight.
That’s a pretty sick bike! I’ve never seen one in red.
Mines not as light as yours, but I’m running a Sram Red/Force mix and Reynolds Assault Clinchers on my 2016 ALR and I’m at 15 lbs flat. So I’m thinking your weight looks reasonable to me.
I still have the Force crank though, I’m thinking if I got a lighter crank and some tubulars I could be a lot closer to your weight.
I was planning to do the same: swapping left GRX with an ultegra stages left crank I already have. Still have to order the grail AL however.
Can you confirm me that there is enough clearance? My stages crank should be a gen 2 since I got it in 2018.
Thanks a lot!
Nicola
Yes, everything is just fine. Look at this photo at google images: https://photos.app.goo.gl/4Q6NPf1W4LzUCnk3A
Canyon Grail AL 2020 size S with 170mm GRX cranckset + Stages Ultegra Gen 2 left only.
Thanks, great!
Are you happy about the bike?
The answer is: yes and no at the same time It is a great bike for the gravel job but I’m more road/cx oriented person so - for me- better choice should be inflite model. But, after I changed the wheelset (I bought carbon wheels), seatpost (with 0 offset) and tyres (35mm pirelli) the bike feels much better. Great bike for the money but everything depends on yours expectations
It should than work fine for my purposes. I’m looking for a n+1 gravel to cross from paved roads to single tracks
Thanks for your help!
Finally done in time for race #1 of the road season…which of course is cancelled, lol.
