Sensitive Area Recovery

Thanks for sharing. Could you share more about how you find it out, what is it like,(location of it, size etc) and do you stop cycling and the process of removal? I may have similar thing but want to see more experience from other..

Thanks!

Started as a sore that wouldnt heal. It got infected and I did a round of antibiotics and 2 weeks off the bike. It pretty much disappeared. Then as soon as I started riding it came back as a lump under the skin. It grew to about 1.5 by 2.5 cm long. I went to a general surgeon for a consult and he wanted to remove it. 4 days later did it as an outpatient under a general anesthesia. Biopsy said it was a scar tissue encapsulated abcess. Took forever to heal, ended up being off the bike 8 weeks. It was in the perineal area on the right side between my sit bones and scrotum.

@russell.r.sage I know this is an old thread but any update on your recovery ? Currently dealing with something similar and of all the searching I have done your situation sounded most like my own. Appears like swelling on my right sit bone area but is not painful.

As I looked into it I thought I may have Ischial Bursitis but I am convinced its not that. The affected area is not hard its soft to touch like fluid or swelling would be.

I am currently starting my second week off the bike to see if it settles with some time off the saddle. It may have reduced slightly with rest but as it is subtle to look at visually its hard to tell. It definitely hasn’t gone away and to be honest I don’t predict that its going to. As its not painful I am debating if I should just carry on riding. I have an ultra sound booked in two weeks time just to get it checked out but I am finding it hard being off the bike. Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have had episodes of cycling related ischial bursitis (caused initially by a very hard fall while snowboarding many years ago and the reinjured years ago crashing on the top tube when I first started out on clipless pedals). For me that pain is very distinguishable–sharp/stinging/white hot and comes on so fast my eyes water. Luckily I have figured out saddles and have not had the pain too often. If I’m riding extended rough trail like 4+ hrs in the saddle on a hardtail it can creep up. I can baby it by riding the trainer/no bouncing after it flares up for like two weeks but if I just push through it I’ll have to take time 100% off the bike because it will get worse. It feels like your sit bone is cracked. I had mild swelling, not soft, more like inflammation. Hope you can find answers.
