"Seasonal" availability and plan adaptations

Hello,

This may have been asked/discussed before; I did not find the answer(s) . I am about to start o plan for next season, A event is to take place beginning of September 2026. Now, when creating the plan I am supposed to indicate my availability, but obviously this is a bit moving target. I am not talking about ā€œlife happensā€; I am talking about ā€œseasonalityā€. For example during winter I will be riding different (less) hours outside during the weekends and overall i think the volumes will be lower during winter. Ideally I could define some periods and specify the volumes (lets say four periods during the year) so that the ā€œcomputerā€ knows and creates the plan accordingly. Again - I am not talking about adaptations, I am talking about the fact that if I tell the computer now, that I will train x hours and during spring it will increase to double the plan my look differently as the whole compared to training x hours per week for next 11 months and maybe adding some ad-hoc sessions. I hope it makes sense… :face_with_peeking_eye: . How do you do such planning? Any ideas/solutions? Thanks!

Hey there,

You can adjust your training schedule on the fly at any time, so I’d focus on putting the best plan in place for right now, and making changes seasonally as you need to.

I agree that it’s really tricky to plan out specifics too far out in the future, and things change, so try not to get too distracted by the future.

Let me know if this helps! :handshake:

Thanks! I was probably ā€œover-engineeringā€ it a bit - my thought process was: if it is already known, that the volumes will change (for example weekend rides will go from 2 hours on Sunday to 5 hours), additional session indoors during the week etc…. would it result in different approach (plan) or will it be the sae as changing the availability 3 months into the plan? Will the computer suggest same approach or will it take different path? I am thinking about it like if I was working with the coach: we would have the planning session and there we would lay down facts (like the less hours during winter) and plan in the context of that big picture. When asking computer to create plan for me, it is is very 0/1  - ā€œyou can train x hours per week and this is the best use of that timeā€, but again… would it be the same knowing that the x will double in three months?

The only other way would probably be to create plan just for base and then, new plan for build with different availability. But is it worth it? Or will I achieve pretty much the same when adjusting the availability few months into the plan?

It’s totally fine to change your training availability on the fly in the same plan. :slightly_smiling_face:

The plan’s discipline and basic structure will remain the same, but we’ll always respect your training schedule.

Let me know if this answers your question. :slightly_smiling_face:

In some ways it does, but let me rephrase it one last time :teacher: .

Will the computer have same approach and give me same workout on the Sunday in December?

  1. Thinking that I will train ā€œforeverā€ x hours per week.
  2. Knowing I will increase the volume in spring.

Would there be different way to utilize the winter hours? I am kind of worried that starting with low(er) availability may lead to kind of sweet-spot approcah while in case of knowing that the volumes (availability) will increase would lead to different workouts during winter.

Your training volume doesn’t really affect the logic of your training plan.

We won’t start to take you in one direction simply because you’re doing x hours on one day and y hours a week.

We give you the best plan we can, which is defined by your availability.

Again, there’s no harm in making schedule adjustments on the fly. Your plan will be solid and take you in the right direction either way. :slightly_smiling_face:
