Rooted Vermont Anyone?

Rooted was today: what an amazing event! I’d highly recommend it to any of you northeast gravel racers/riders. Incredibly well-organized, huge number of volunteers, fun “mullet protocol” that cares as much about the back of the pack as the pros in the front, and we were treated to a beautiful Vermont morning with only a bit of rain several hours in.

Anyone else here race?

Here’s a shot of my friend Jason (12th place today!) at the end of the difficult class IV (pavé) section on yesterday’s scouting ride.

What did you run for a bike/gears/tires? I’m planning ahead and with the parts shortages I’d better order soon!!

I used my Crux with GravelKing 38 slicks. I had a wide gear range with 42 chainring and 9-46 cassette. 2x would work well too.

I’m in for the longer route…but wondering if I’ll make it 80+ miles :grimacing::grimacing::grimacing::grimacing: Have until 7/24 to switch to the Little Sip.

We got an AirBNB so were making it a mini family vacation … can’t wait!!

Really bummed I missed the sign-up this year, especially since it’s like half an hour from my house. That said, here’s a quick list of things for people new to Vermont to check out. Lots of other stuff to do, but here are some quick highlights:

  • Maple creemees with maple dust (soft serve ice cream made with maple syrup and rolled in maple sugar. Red Hen Bakery in Middlesex has awesome creemees and is a great cyclist stop, but I’m guessing Untapped will probably have their own on-site)
  • Beer - Lawson’s is a title sponsor, but the Alchemist in Stowe makes Heady Topper and Hill Farmstead in Greensboro was voted best brewery in the world five times (?) and they’ve got a really beautiful tasting barn/outdoor space.
  • Swimming holes in the Mad River Valley

I’m in! Weather isn’t looking great at this point, but we shall see…

Also, really want a creemee.

I’ll be there for the Little Sip, doing my best to stick with the mullet protocol.

I’m in western MA about 3 hours from Richmond, VT. It’s going to be in the upper 90s this weekend. Let’s hope it cools off for the ride :grimacing::grimacing::grimacing::grimacing:

I have mounts on my fork…thinking of bringing 4 water bottles and a gallon of sunscreen.

Do you know how many rest stops there are? I’m hoping to refill frequently to avoid having to carry a ton.

I think this was last year but I’m sure it will be nearly the same this year:

Thank you. Four stops should get me through carrying two bottles. And hey, it’s not a race (for me). If I need to sit at a stop and down an extra bottle, so be it.
