Riding with a 50% supraspinatus tendon tear, worth the risk?

I recently had an MRI and the follow up revealed a 50% tear in the tendon super disappointing. This occured from a crash in Spring everything else healed up but the shoulder lingered. I start PT in a week or so but im concerned about falling again and risking surgery. I could ride indoors until i feel a little better perhaps after a few PT sessions but i hate to miss group rides.
Has anyone had similar experience? Any input is greatly appreciated

Mine snapped in an MTB crash long time ago and I would give a lot to have it 50% with the ability to heal it (which honestly is a year of effort and taking care).
Just saying.

Im hoping a few months of PT will heal it if i happen to go down again in a group ride it could be 6 months+, ugh

I don’t know how old you are but most people over the age of 50 , if they do a shoulder MRI have at least a partial thickness tear of the rotator cuff, it means nothing, do some rehab and if you’re pain-free, go send it.

And whatever you do, don’t listen to other people who tell you about their shoulder injuries, their anecdotal stories mean nothing

You have the rare chance to have something heal by simply stopping to exercise. Why would you risk permanent damage and surgery for short-term gain? Continuing to train before you get the green light from your doctors and your PT seems very unwise.

Both of mine happened within a month. Rest and limited movement is the best thing for a few months, for sure. Don’t aggravate it, like I did. I crashed 2x a few months apart mtbing and was literally in tears on the ground thinking I don’t know if I can even make it back. It took a full year until I could pull start my lawnmower.

I am cleared to ride road bike my fear is crashing probably long odds but if it would happen its probably guaranteeing surgery

Talk to your physiotherapist - they will recommend your limits.

But I wouldn’t be surprised if you need to take some time away from MTB to let it heal.

I skipped the morning shop ride, tough to do Im an addict lol. This is a 21 mph road ride but its the biggest and most chaotic of the week and makes me nervous on a good day. I’ll stick to TR and look to do the more organized week day early morning rides, PT is upcoming Ill get back on track

You’re 100% correct I am positive I had preexisting damage before I crashed. Since the crash the shoulder has been annoying now it’s at 50% this is what spooked me

truly 50% isnt too bad. just strengthen the the front and back (internal and external rotation) and all will be fine.
