The camera man caught me one of the few times I was non aero yesterday, on the exit of a roundabout (Traffic Circle).
Nucking futs! Sorry, but my risk-averse self is all about keeping both wheels firmly planted on the ground. I assume you stuck the landing, so well done, though!
Yeah, thanks, its a pretty typical jump for me. No real risk
Cow Pie Classic 100k Gravel Race
Ionia, MI
Finishing up the 2nd of three farm sectors where it’s uphill and bumpy AF! This must be where they bring the cows up and down because it felt like a mile of rumble strips/braking bumps. I was able to hang with the lead group for the first 49 miles just over 2:13 hours. Got popped going through the 2nd farm sector and ended up a couple minutes back at the finish. Good enough for 3rd in my age group and 19th overall. (side note: my bike looks WAY more aero than the rim brake fella in orange!)
Loudon 1725 Gravel Grinder
Loudon County, VA, USA
A couple of photos from the beginning of last weekend’s ride. I was in the third group to start (every 1-2 minutes) and was ahead of the photographer for the whole event. I’m in the neon yellow jersey.
This is obviously not me but shows how deep the ford crossing was. Looking at other photos there was apparently a much shallower location to cross. That would have been good to know!

Lumberjack (100 mile MTB Race). Set a 50+ minute PR and finished 24th/457 overall. Had an amazing day!
Lol. If you just quickly glance at that 3rd picture it looks like you grew some nice long blonde hair in the middle of the race. Good job!
That is an ice sock I picked up for lap 3 (pantyhose leg filled with ice and tied off at the end to drape around my neck). Ice sock for the “W”!!! Also put on a nearly frozen hydration pack which also felt amazing.
Great effort and great result. 45mph on an MTB is scary! Extra kudos for the 50 minute PR
45mph on a mountain bike?! Did you and your bike parachute out of a plane to start the race? Holy smokes I am slow…
Thursday night’s club TT, it was a bit of a mare mechanical wise but when things were working I was quite pleased with how aero I was against power output.
Couple of shots from the Dragon Gran Fondo at the weekend.
I look a little crazy in the side-on photo. Prefer the downhill one
How do you like your aerocoach extensions? I am looking for an upgrade over my “too short” zipp vukas. I am considering upgrading to the aerocoach ascalons, or the ones you have. I am also thinking about just getting a longer reach vuka version or the tririg extensions.
The aescalons are nice, but I am currently using 2 button 11 spd Di2 and I know that would require a different extension vs. If I upgrade to the newer 12 spd…
Too many options!
I like them, Ive got the 35deg carbon ones and they feel really comfortable. Before that I had the 45deg aluminium ones. The grip feels much better/ reassuring on the carbon ones. The Alu ones are just separate parts glued on / two peoce but the carbon ones are integrated/ one peice. The alu ones needed keeping an eye on two as they could rotate fractionally, but the carbon one have been rock solid I am using campagnolo Chorus mechanical 11sp. I preferred the look of Campagnolo shiftets compared to mechanical shimano, the campagnolo is return to centre. You’ve not got the look problem with Di2
Cool photo
Got some decent FinisherPix photos on my new tri bike at Ironman 70.3 Coeur d’Alene:
I also splurged on a fancy 360 action camera (Insta360 X4), it’s been a lot of fun messing around with it. Instagram link because I don’t know where else to put it: Guillermo Esteves on Instagram: "Another beautiful day of riding in Grand Teton National Park."
