Howdy all. My doctor has recommended a red yeast rice supplement for me for reducing LDL cholesterol. Reading up on it and I understand that one of the compounds in it is chemically identical to that in a statin drug and carries a small risk of myopathy. Anyone take this while training?
I used to before I started cycling, but was weightlifting heavily. No issues.
For a non prescription lipid support, I found lipid stabil (supplement) and niacin to be the biggest help (can’t be no flush niacin). Niacin did cause a lot of flushing.
I’ve since slimmed down a lot and greatly increased cardio and my blood/heart numbers are all solid without any specific heart support supplements.

My wife used it for awhile. YMMV. Her cholesterol lowered but she got noticeable muscle weakness so she quit. Any statin meds affect her for the negative.
Honestly, I’m not sure why a doctor would recommend a supplement rather than the inexpensive pharmaceutical that comes in a guaranteed measured dose.
