Red Light Green Light is Available in Early Access! 🎉 🎉 🎉🎉 🎉 🎉🎉 🎉

Looking at my calendar has been more eye-opening than I had anticipated. I’m currently on Masters MV with all my rides indoors. I’ve been following the plan very closely except for the following: ~ 1 day a week I’ve been doing 3-4 mile jogs, and I’ve been bumping up the WL on my long Sunday Z2 ride. (And last week was a recovery which I shortened because planner gave me 2 short blocks back-to-back.)

The vast majority of my Mondays (day off) are red. Red’s are otherwise somewhat rare, but it’s the huge amounts of yellow that really surprise me. Am I really that far off plan with my adjustments? I had been on HV previously and went to MV precisely to include a slow run on the extra day off.

Cheers Nate, it’s all positives, yeah I see the red and you’re right I should have taking the day off. If red light was available that day I would probably of skipped it. I’ve been listening to the pod for years and waiting for this to launch. You’re on the right road, fair play.

@Nate_Pearson How long after completing a workout does RLGL need till the next day would reflect a possible yellow or red designation? For example, if I did a hard workout or ride today that may generate a yellow day for the next day, when should I see that in my calendar? Hope that makes sense.

Its awesome by the way! Congrats to the whole team on this accomplishment!

Great timing. I’m starting my 2024 season training this week after taking two weeks off the completely. I’ll get to use this the whole season through base, build and specialty. Starting rested I’ll be interested to see how it adapts to my season 2024. Thanks team

It was immediately following a completed workout for me.

Thank you!! It depends on your training history and how hard that ride is.

But I believe most yellow days clear after one day rest. Red could take a day or more.

Yes, as soon as you train on a day we’ll look at the next day.

So it’s virtually instant.

That would be great!!

@Nate_Pearson RLGL looks good so far. How about a future option for RLGL that assumes that all future workouts I place in the calendar will be done correctly and shows RLGL also into the future? Some can self coach into the next weeks and see consequences of potential workout adjustments I make…

So far, pretty cool. It properly detected my over-exuberance this past Saturday (60°F in New England, gotta ride outside) and flagged Sunday as a red day. Yup.

However, I have a lot of yellow going back through last year and beyond. Not too many red. I think it would be instructive to have some guidance on what amount of yellow/red to expect. Eg - following a MV plan will typically have betwen X and Y yellow days during a block. Obviously there’s no universal number, but a meaninful range would be handy.

Also, in the App (MacOS) if I go more than a couple of months back in the calendar, the Yellow/Red show up, but the workouts don’t, unless they’re scheduled TR workouts, and those have no data associated (no yellow lines on the blue graph). The web calendar seems OK.

Looking forward to how this tracks my self-assessment.

This feature has been cool so far, but basically just told me I’ve been doing a great job at not riding when I’m beat. I will be interested to see if this can replace tools like Whoop in the long term. I only do Cycling and occasionally running when the cops are after me… so everything I do should be pulled into TR.

@Nate_Pearson Just release the Trainer Road Wearable already…

Maybe a bit silly feedback…

I think Paris-Brest-Paris broke it lol. Looking back on this, it only has the day immediately afterwards as red (dates and times are off in the calendar bc of the time change). Then the next day is yellow, then the day after that green. This despite accumulating ~1400 TSS and 50 hours on the bike in three days and only a few hours of sleep.

I’m assuming there’s probably not enough data points of this sort of ride in the training data for it to be super accurate for something like this. I’m not sure if your model is incorporating HR data, but if it is, then I wonder if the HR suppression you get on long/multi-day rides is part of this too (ie: it thinks days 2 and 3 were easier than they were because my HR doesn’t go as high… because it can’t lol). My personal recollection of things based on how I felt is that the first week or so afterwards should have been red, followed by a couple of days to another week of yellow.

Most of it’s suggestions fly with what I was feeling in general though. The only other thing I’d add is that in retrospect it also seems to be a bit too aggressive with suggesting time off the bike after some of my longer training rides (4-12h) leading up to PBP. However, not all my training data is in TR from this period, so that’s probably part of this.

Yes, we want to build this!

One point of feedback/personal preference is that, for me, the color coding in the app is a bit much. It seems to clutter or dominate the interface. I’d prefer just the symbols under the date, or perhaps the date be put in a colored box instead of the whole item.

RLGL: Potentially helpful for executing training in the immediate term, and so TR can algorithmically say “I told you so, it wasn’t us, it was you!!”

Requires reflective analysis to understand and trust it, however emotionally the colour red causes ALARM. Events are very different to training; if racers pay thousands and work months towards an event, are we going to behave differently when event day comes around and it’s red? When that happens, what can a TR user do on race day, other than be recommended to rest by their training software?

Its prominence is appropriate if the principle use case is ‘training’ rather than ‘real world’.

Looks like I spent 5 out of 7 days of the BCBR in the red.

So is this fully working in the TR android app? I get Monday just gone with an amber box round it and exclamation mark warning me about training, then the Sunday and Monday a week ago also with an amber box and exclamation mark. But the days in between or today, nothing, no red, amber or green boxes

Probably would have been fewer than that if you’d followed a typical taper protocol though, I’m guessing.

Same here but since it matches the website for me I’m content to assume my training is more or less on track. There’s no green light btw.
