Question about activity syncing

I just signed up for TrainerRoad and uploaded my ride history of the last month.

I would like to sync my Strava account so that future activities are automatically uploaded to TrainerRoad. At the same time I do NOT want to sync older activities since I believe there to be too much “bad data” (rides with different power meters, rides without power meters etc).

EDIT: after manually uploading a few activities, TR basically spasmed out on me and had nearly every workout day marked as a “red day”. So I uploaded the rest of my activities, figuring I could also delete them later. Result was that it calmed down and realized that the training load/volume is normal for me, so I guess I’ll leave the data in :man_shrugging:

I just had this idea in my head of starting my training route on TR from a clean slate, but I guess that’s a bad idea?

Welcome to TrainerRoad! :waving_hand:

Syncing in your old data isn’t a bad idea. We usually encourage it.

If you have activities that you know have bad data, you choose to have that data ignored by clicking on the activity in your calendar, selecting the edit pencil at the bottom, and unchecking the boxes that you’d like, as shown below.

If those activities are old, I wouldn’t worry too much, though.

Let me know if this helps!

Hey there, thanks for the reply.

I synced my rides and tried to exclude as many of the rides that I suspect to have faulty data as possible. Was using the power curve in the career section to try and identify them. It’s not quite what I wanted, but I guess it’s the best way to do it for now.

Curious to see how things go from here, thanks for the reply :+1:

PS: I’ve now done my Ramp Test and ended up with an FTP of 321. Right after the workout ended the AI told me it would calculate my FTP based on recent activities and gave me an FTP of 336  And since I’d like to use the Ai detected I had to accept it. Probably resulting in workouts now being too hard since they are based of an inflated FTP…

The cool thing about how TR works is that even if your FTP is slightly off, we’ll still get you the right workouts. We have wiggle room in our really large workout library, so if your FTP is slightly too high, you might just take on some lower-level workouts at first.

We won’t know until you give a hard workout or two a fair shot, though.

Ramp tests aren’t necessarily the best way to find FTP anymore, so I’m not sure those results are the best number to go with.

Prepare well for that first hard workout and give it a shot. Let me know how it goes!
