Hi ya’ll. Wondering if I could get some insight. Seems lately my progression levels have stagnated. The last few weeks below, I’ve seen no bump in progression. Anyone have any idea why this could be?
Hey @jbakkane ![]()
If I am reading this correctly, you’re concerned that the plan is recommending the same Workout Levels, not that your Progression Levels are not updating. Correct?
If so, then TrainerRoad works a bit differently as it now looks beyond just Workout Levels, factoring in your fitness, recent training, and overall trends to pick the right workout for you that day.
When a workout looks different from what you might expect based on past recommendations (getting progressively higher Workout Levels), it’s reflecting a broader view of your current fitness and capabilities.
So now, some workouts will have lower, higher, or the same Workout Levels depending on how your training is going. This supports consistent, high-quality training that allows you to get faster!
I was talking about the progression level. You know when you complete a workout and rate it Moderate/Hard… whatever. It then tells you, your Threshold level has increased by 0.2 or something..
The last few weeks it’s been 0.0 I’m sure there is some formula I’m not satisfying to get the bump.
I guess I’m curious how it works, like is it based on your response?
It’s just sad to see that zero after a hard workout. You should just always make it at least 0.1 lol ![]()
It’s hard to get a full picture of the situation from the short period in the screencap you posted, but I notice a few things:
- You’re skipping a fair number of workouts. I’m not sure how TR takes this into account, but I’d think that you need to complete more of the prescribed workouts.
- There appear to be a number of outdoor rides with no RPE added. I don’t think TR takes these into account for PLs, but might take them into account when suggesting workouts, so be sure to always add your RPE.
- It looks like you did Guyat a bit ago and rated it Moderate. You then did it again the following week and rated it Hard. If the same workout is harder when doing it later, i don’t think that TR will suggest something even harder, which could be stagnating your PLs.
In short, I think you might want to try following the prescribed program a bit more closely and see what happens then
The formula is quite simple. If you successfully complete the workout you get the progression level corresponding to that workout. When you do Glennamong you get a Threshold PL of 2.3 because that’s what it is for that workout. If you do the same workout again the next week you will not get a bump because that workout still is a 2.3 and you already are at that level.
So the easy answer is that you aren’t getting PL bumps because you are not doing workouts with workout levels higher than your current PL. Why that is you have already gotten a good answer from TR on.
Ah ok, that makes a lot of sense. So I’ll just have to make sure my next weeks workout has a slight bump in PL.
Thanks for the info!
Maybe upload a screenshot of the workout and your current progression levels?
See pics attached to my post. ![]()
There is a dip in the second to last interval. Did it ask what caused it after you were done? Like @Torneng said. You have to successfully complete the workout. Maybe since you failed that one intervall, IDK? I unchecked the “Solution” button so it’s open again. Maybe someone @TrainerRoad_Admin could clarify.
Did you get the survey for incomplete?
That looks like a bug to me. I’d go directly to TR support and ask them. It might just need to be reprocessed or something.
