Pro Road Racing thread 2021 (spoilers)

Final day excitement

He’s a real good dude. I can’t stand the nonsense about him being unsportsmanlike after his win the other day.

And he apparently attempted to make up the gap to Schachmann despite having dislocated his shoulder in the first crash :scream:

Well, I still disagree with him snagging that win, but I also understand how things happen in the heat of the moment. I sure wouldn’t call him unsportsmanlike as a result of one incident.

Rog seems like the real deal when it comes to sportsmanship.

Both PN and TA were crazy yesterday :scream:

Last circuit of TA was a thriller itself. I though MVDP would keep the gap around 1 or 2 mins and easily win, but what an outcome. Who would expect such a chase scene! I was just about to go to bed but then Pogacar ignited and I couldn’t leave that moment till the end.

After the finish of TA, I turned my channel(GCN+) to PN, then there was a human drama :scream_cat: Why Roglic left behind with hugh road rash and no team mates! Damn, crashed 2 times for the yellow jersey and keep fighting till the end.

he’s learned the hard way from last years TDF to never give up time if possible. those bonus seconds could have mattered even today if it had been a bit closer.

King Küng!

too early…

I ask myself if I would / could have finished that race in the same matter he did. A ton of heart and courage. At some point, he knew wasn’t racing for anything, but still want as hard as he could, the whole way to finish. And went right to the winner and congratulated him. He could have gotten in the team car, rode in the grupetto, or eased up once he realized he wasn’t going to make the peloton, but he never did. That’s how your earn respect in my option.

Chapeau.

nobody owes anybody anything in the race, especially if they’re from different teams. You race and try to win. Mader and Roglic raced and the later was faster. Same the day after, hard to win if you can’t stay upright in your bike. To give him credit, he fought like a bull until the end but it’s hard to nullify 2 mistakes…

4th today in MSR, he looks to be finding his form.

Any Volta a Catalunya predictions? Coverage should start in a few minutes on NBC Sports Gold here in US.

I’m excited to watch Sepp and TJV. I’m hoping Sepp is the protected rider, but we’ll see!

Juts as most other races so far, there is quite a stellar line up. Ineos send a few big guns, Carapaz is for sure one of the top favourites for the GC I’d say.
At Jumbo-Visma it’s propably Kruiswijk who’s #1, but the beauty of the early season races is always, that they are a lot more flexible with the riders. So if Kuss proves to be in good form, they’ll probably let him give it a whirl at the overall.

It looks a strong field again overall for the race. Personally I am looking forward to seeing how both Huge Carthy and Jaoa Almedia perform.

Also, Stage 3 and 4 summit finishes look like they could be a good target for Michael Woods but not sure if he will be working for Froome?

I think Froome will be a non-issue as he was dropped on the big climb today I believe (I’ve been listening on and off between work calls).

Yeah Froome said, he is not a GC contender. He just wants to build his form for the Tour. Apparently he used this Race most years as TdF preparation.

I guess I don’t understand the fanfare about Froome. He gets a bunch of press, but why?

If this was any other sport he would not be brought to events.

Because he won the Tour 4 times, which makes him one of 5 people in history. (Anquetil, Merckx, Indurain and Hinault each won 5 times)

also 1 of only 4 to win all 3 grand tours in a row (Merckx, Hinault, & Contador)
