Pro/Elite training

From one of the authors on the question if power based time in zone looks similar:

TID was only HR based as otherwise it would have expanded the scope of the article. We also analyzed power data for TID and I can tell you it looks a lot different.

Seems similar to one study where they compared hr based time in zone with pace/km based time in zone in runners. You get a different TID.

new Bora-H rider Nils Politt. Logging some massive hours on Mallorca this month. Last week were 35hrs … in that week.

Egan Bernal is back with big week of Z2 training:

Which is super weird considering he said that his previous crazy big weeks were ground zero for his back problems.

Maybe he finished his “months of rehab” to get his scoliosis straightened out and he’s good to go now… (I suppose it has been 2 months… Egan Bernal working to resolve Tour de France back problems | Cyclingnews

Google Translate does a pretty job if you can’t read Spanish.

Bernal’s ride…24 mph for 170 miles seems pretty insane. And with just under 200W average.

200W doesn’t get me to 24mph, but maybe its heavely affected by the hills.

He could have been motor pacing or riding with a big bunch that haven’t uploaded their riders to Strava.

Does it cement the argument of long, easy rides, or is it just an inevitability of such a high training volume?

In addition, it assumes that the average IF is being calculated correctly, which is probably incorrect. (You can’t just average the IF of the individual workouts.)

I did 100 miles in 4 hrs, it was 270w

I was on a group ride with him 2 years, he hasn’t changed his view on low carb/fasted training since then:

One can say that all riders implement a carbohydrate rich diet as a base.

Just a few riders implement ”low carb rides” at a maximum of once per week or once every two weeks (the rest of the time they take in rather much carbohydrates).

Top 3 advice to amateur athletes

Don’t go low carb.
Make sure to fuel the riders probably.
Do not overdo fasted training and ”low carb training”.

good lord

With that FTP one really wonders if Pog actually does his z2 rides (300w-ish) right at the AeT. My nose says well below.
