Pro Cycling Thread 2024

Concur about the race… Watched LR this morning not bad. I felt they threw a wide net and went into some detail about many riders outside of the usaual suspects…I’ve added them to my group to have a variety… thanks.

Roglic with a bike change at the bottom of the Passo Tre Croci…rear cassette has a 44 rear cog. Looks like he will have close to a 1:1 for the finale today.

In a road race. :scream:

Potentially a dumb question, but why the massive cassette and 1x? Save a few grams with the 1x? Something else? I’d think a 2x and big but not straight-up gravel-geared cassette could have worked for the whole stage, but they did it for a reason so I’m sure I’m missing something.

Apparently Primoz is on a 1x?

Can’t answer for sure…they did say the 44 was only compatible with a 1x, but I think it is fair question why they didn’t go with a 2x combo that gave him a similar gear range. Technically heavier, but also don’t need to faff about with a bike change.

We definitely will have to watch he post race show and pressure increases he better do well

I mean even for the Pros, sustained 13-16% gradients over 3 Kilometers will lead to grinding in relatively low cadence on anything below 1:1 . The 44t in front should in theory increase the efficiency of the drivetrain a bit compared to a small front ring. I think they are using that because they want that setup for tomorrow anyway and you really don’t need a high top end since it is steep up until the finish line.

A bit disappointed that no one was willing to make the race hard… but understandable with this finish and tomorrow looming and the small time gaps for the top 3.

Well my guess is Primoz needs a hugh explosion to gain what 10 secs minimum…I’m with you why not try to blow em up early…

What is up with Rider 161 of ARKEA and his helmet??? It’s not like those of his teammates…

They are putting on the pressure now. Top 3 teams all shedding riders.

Every meter that passes by means the time gaps will be smaller and smaller.

This is why I don’t really like huge, challenging stages like this…it has the opposite effect of what you expect. It makes the riders conservative, not aggressive.

And Gee is on his way to his 3rd 2nd place stage placing…but has cemented his role as a cult hero.

Yeah, thought G was gonna steal a handful of seconds, but Rog dug deep and turned the tables at the last second.

I’m not counting out Almeida, either…
