Pro Cycling Thread 2024

As a woman who raced in Gila, the UCI women were great to watch. I had no idea Austin was trans. She kicked ass. Good for her.

Was sad Superman Lopez crashed out before the crit.

Exactly this. No reason to clutter an annual solid racing thread bc that topic (while relevant) will without question take this thread in a different direction than weekly race results/performances.

It’s a discussion of value, but not for this.

@mcneese.chad may want TR to weigh in on this - but could we break this into a separate thread? I think its a separate topic altogether

Agreed.

Yep, sure to pull things off the rails as a given.

LR and Benji did their preview show today and picked Almeida as their favorite. I think they did it more for entertainment value than anything but found that to be an interesting pick.

I’m rooting for not-Remco. I’ll probably come around eventually but there’s something about him that rubs me the wrong way.

I have no interest in watching sports where biological men beat up on biological women. This just weakens women’s sports especially from a viewership and advertising point of view.

Looks like the larger teams have taken notice of Matteo’s recent success.

5.78 w/kg x 59 min!!!

Glad you posted this. I was going to mention it. Quite a lot of chatter about him doping. He came out explaining the reasons for his recent success. Good for US cycling!

Yep, I think those numbers definitely constitutes progress😀

Just absurd numbers. Like I can’t even comprehend that. It’d be like me doing 483w for an hour. I cant do that for 5 minutes.

I think Almeida has no hope of winning, and tbh I’d rate him as UAE’s 4th best GC guy after both Ayuso & Vine, though they’re both coming back from injuries.

I fancy Vine as an outside bet to podium.
I wish cycling betting sites had more options for stage/place/time gap betting, really lacking compared to other sports.

Trek-Segafredo reportedly to become Lidl - Trek starting with the TdF this year. Big new $$ for the team, it sounds like.

In the meantime, the Giro kicks off tomorrow…all eyes on the Roglic - Remco duel. It is a good course for both of them, but maybe with a slight edge towards Rog overall. But his team juust took another blow with Jan Tratnik crashing on the eve of the race.

I’m obviously liking Ganna for the opening stage, but watching Rog and Remco duke it out will be fun. Thomas should be there or thereabouts after the first stage, I reckon.

Not enough love for the women’s vuelta in this thread. I am smitten with Demi Vollering.

I’m looking forward to what seems to be Rigoberto Uran last grand tour. Such a consistent GC guy!!!

2012 - 7th Giro
2013 - 2nd Giro
2014 - 2nd Giro
2015 - Kind of sucked this year in GT
2016 - 7th Giro
2017 - 2nd TdF
2018 - 7th Vuelta
2019 - 7th TdF
2020 - 8th TdF
2021 - 10th TdF
2022 - 9th Vuelta

I dont know if you can find anothe rider this consistent for that long aside from the usual winners. Rigo and Nairo really got screwed by the doping Froome guy.

Well, only one of those 3 have ever been found guilty of doping, so… :man_shrugging:t2:

(I am not saying Froome was clean, just pointing out a certain irony)

True, but the scale and sophistication of the Sky scheme is what made the big difference. Nairo really failed an IQ test with the Tramadol scandal.

Doping, but not PEDs.
OTOH, actual PEDs were found at Sky/BC but not at Arkea (despite a police raid). Not much uproar there, though.

You did read my whole post, right?
