One of the reasons I love riding is exploring the landscape (and the gamification of it). Do you plan your rides to explore new VeloViewer tiles? What is your explorer score?
My score is modest as I’ve only been riding properly for two years:
Explorer score: 1188 tiles, average of 8.853 km per tile
Max square 15x15
Max Cluster: 388
The max square is challenging for me because I’m blocked by mountains.
A bit challenging here too, blocked by the sea from one side and by swamps and lakes from another. I try to plan my routes so that I always get a couple of new tiles if possible, I don’t like riding the same roads very often.
988 tiles, average of 6.858 mi per tile
Max square 7x7
Max Cluster: 58
For exploring gamification I love wandrer.earth. The VeloViewer system is a little hard for me since I’m blocked by mountains and large swaths of private land.
I do like the idea of wandrer.earth, but to me it feels a better fit for running/hiking or if you ride in rural areas. Finishing a heavily populated area with the bike feels too tedious and not so interesting.
My wee jaunt through the Trossachs has picked me up another few tiles. Unfortunately after GPS/ Glosnass error it looks good one square I just brushed into was missed by veloviewer.
I was toying with this idea on a long ride recently, to do a challenge of riding every road in my country or something along those lines… Tiling it up is probably a better idea, haha.
Explorer score:
2237 tiles, average of 5.532 km per tile
Max square 8x8
Max Cluster: 205
