Something is deeply wrong with the plan that the app is generating for me. Over the past few weeks I’ve been struggling with my workouts and have been constantly selecting easier alternates or lowering the intensity of workouts.
Today I had FTP detection and my FTP went down by 1 watt (yay!). The next four weeks of workouts that I’m being prescribed are insane. Last week I completed Guyat but the last interval was just about maximum effort. My workout for Tuesday is Galena -2, an even harder workout and the app is suggesting that it will feel moderate. What? I was barely able to hold 94% for 10 minutes and now I’m supposed to hold it for twice as long and that’s supposed to feel even easier? Yesterday my threshold workout was Kid, and that was actually moderate, my workout for next Saturday is Beasley and the app is suggesting that will also be moderate. I would be shocked if I could even complete the first interval of Beasley.
I tried to get the app to suggest me easier workouts by increasing the RPE survey of some of my recent workouts. Instead, the plan actually made my future workouts even harder. It’s giving me a predicted FTP of 11.1% or 27 watts. I also tried going into my plan and changing the approach from balanced to moderate, that had zero effect on the plan.
I’m sorry but what’s the point of paying for this app if the plans that it’s generating for me are basically useless? If I can’t just trust the app to actually select viable workouts then what’s the point in using it at all? I’m really considering looking into other options at this point.
That’s wild. Someone from TR should look at your calendar. All the things you’re doing to get easier workouts work for me (for example, I rated a threshold workout ‘very hard’ a few weeks ago and TR automatically adjusted future workouts to be easier and dropped my predicted FTP). How much training history do you have in the app? You rated Kid as moderate so the AI might be assigning Beasley to see where you are. For your 11.1% predicted FTP increase: I sometimes get huge predicted FTP increases like that at the beginning of a block, but it tapers down to a realistic bump by the end (my last one was something like 10% to 3% and I completed every workout as prescribed with only one threshold workout rated ‘very hard’ when it predicted ‘hard’).
I have almost a years worth of training data in the app. After a long easy ride this morning it’s now prescribing me Eichorn +2 for Tuesday which is an even harder workout than it was giving me when I first posted.
I donated double red blood cells 3.5 weeks ago which absolutely tanked my cardio. If I had to guess I’d say the AI is ignoring my performance over the past 3.5 weeks and just looking at how I was doing before that as my baseline. You’d think that 3.5 weeks would be enough training date for it to reevaluate and say “okay I guess this person isn’t as fit anymore and we need to scale back” but apparently not.
It looks like Carter was able to help you out a bit with your support ticket.
I’d be happy to chat a bit more here, though, if you’d like. Just let me know if that would help and if we can discuss your training here in this thread.
