Yea Black Friday and after Xmas, even the start of winter a lot of sales for bibs and jerseys.
I was a Pearl bib user for years and years. With my last set of PRO bibs, they were absolutely my favorite bibs ever when I first got them and then around 8-12 months later I was hating them even though they looked perfect.
My theory is that somehow the pad had broken down.
I’ve since switched to Assos and their pads are the best ever. The channels and the dense sit bone foam work for me better than mushy PI pads. If I could get an Assos pad sewn into PI Pro bibs, it would be heaven.
I’d rather have the cheapest on-sales Assos shorts over any other shorts even though I wish the inseams were longer.
Quick follow up. I ordered Pearl Izumi bib shorts from their Attack (mid-tier) line. Unfortunately they are not for me. Despite a mostly flat chamois it was actually fairly comfortable, definitely more so than my low end bib shorts.
However, their is no transition from the chamois to the bib shorts. The edge of the chamois is 1/4 or 3/8 inch thick and just ends. I have one very uncomfortable abrasion on my upper thigh and a less irritated scratch on my upper hamstring.
I placed an order for The Black Bibs Ultimate Bib Tights. Special thanks to Jack in customer service who took the pictures below. I hope these provide the same or better comfort and without the chafing. Hopefully this info is useful to anyone else considering these brands.
Thanks for sharing. Those look very different from the cheap ones I posted above. Still not a shape that looks like it would work for me, but I’m sure between our two posts people will be able to decide which to order.
Btw - @alex3627 “mousepad” was the perfect description for the PI ones!
Yup….see my post above about getting a “quarter moon on my half moon”.
It is not all the time…but under the right circumstances, Pearl chamois are brutal.
I am having the same issue.
Might be time to mail them back as it only happens with bibs after a few months of wear to me
Yes, so true!
Quick update: I got The Black Bibs Adventure shorts, which have their Ultimate chamois, and really like them. The shorts fit better than my current budget ones and the chamois is comfortable for 3+ hour trainer rides.
