Park City P2P Help

I called whitepine/jans/cole this morning and they don’t take reservations. Also apparently this is the last week they keep demo so all of their bikes will be listed for sale on friday. I love to hate the brain too

Bummer!! Last time we rented they took reservations and had bikes ready for us.

My Epic S-works is 2014. I expect next service time that Specialized won’t be going that far back. But will save the Brain comments for the right thread :slight_smile:

Hope you get sorted and all the guys doing PCP2P have a good time. I haven’t done the race, but know most of the trails very well. It’s a great course and if weather cooperates a nice day out.

Not to send you on a wild goose chase but I’ve had good success renting from Cottonwood Cyclery in the past but they have limited stock and I believe the bike was more on the trail/enduro category. There are some other shops in Sandy that might be worth checking as well.

How are folks getting to Quinns? My wife is NOT excited about dropping me off at 6 AM so i am going to either pedal to the start (with my bag drop bags) or try to take an uber. Since their threatening a tow, I don’t want to risk taking my vehicle there - plus i don’t want to worry about getting it home later.

Also, Would folks care to take a look at my nutrition plan? I’ve worked it out to an estimated 10 hours ride, and 1000g carbs needed. Erring high with 1200 in the plan. 9500 ml of water will be the most difficult part.


oh, and bottle is a collapsable trail runners bottle with a straw. I may fill a bike bottle with a coke but don’t plan on running a bike bottle otherwise.

Some are. The Maurten 320, 160 and the Tailwind are drink mixes. The numbers reflect servings (packets, or scoops).
So like, 4 scoops of Tailwind (100g) goes into my 2L bladder. by my math, about 520g are from mixes. is that too high? recommendations are for gels and mixes because it’s mostly single track and solids are PITA to consume without stopping.

Did you test your nutrition on a long ride? Some people can handle mixing other things while others get GI distress. It’s mostly a personal thing.

It can be difficult to consume 100+ carbs per hour. Carbs are necessary, but it’s not a case of “more is better.” Again, hopefully you’ve tested some nutrition and know what kind of carb intake you can handle.

Feed 2 and Feed 3 are closer to each other than the others. The ride from start to Feed 1 is the longest and has the most climbing. Riding from Feed 1 to Feed 2 is another 1/3 of the race approximately. Feed 3 basically divides the remaining third in half. While pace will decline in the final third of the race, I would not expect you to need 600 carbs to get from PCMR to Skull Candy.

I’m in the 10-hour window as well and planning close to 900 carbs split into thirds. Feed 3 isn’t part of my plan, but if I need a Coke or something to bring it home, it’s nice to know it’s there.

Fingers-crossed for clean air! Interesting to hear Keegan say no racing at AQI>100 on last week’s pod. Air is good today and rain is forecast, but plenty of smoke could be blown in.

Yeah. I did 25hrs of Frog Hollow and had no problems eating whatever i could get in my mouth. I do want some more solids in here. I’ll probably swap a few honey stinger waffles for mix. I can eat live on those.
i looked at the timing and location of aid stations. my plan was supposed to taper the last aid station (around 200g), but got a little conservative. I am also not sure i can get 300+ grams in before the first aid station. But that is pretty critical. Note that this is just a plan. It helps me pack the aid station drop bags and I will know if i am trending to a defecit if i hit an aid station and still have a liter of water or all of my gels. I need a plan to keep me consuming. I had a hard lesson at True Grit a couple years ago.

This has me concerned, too. Don’t need a black lung just to hit a bucket list item

If saturday is a bad AQI will you guys consider not racing?

I would consider dropping out. I’m local so I can do it again another year. Tougher for the people who have big trips planned around it. I haven’t decided my magic number. For training, I generally tried to avoid anything over 150 and over 100 for long/intense stuff. Hopefully, it’s either really good or really bad (200+) so my decision is easy.

150+ I’ll probably bail. only 59 right now. so looking good.

Air Quality Index (AQI) > We will be keeping an eye on AQI as wildfires continue to be an issue in the west. After research and input from local experts, we have determined that an AQI sustained at or higher than 150 on race day would make physical activity unsafe for participants. In that case, the event will be postponed and we would explore Sunday or Monday as alternate dates. In the event we completely cancel, regretfully, there will be no entry fee refund.

The above has been added to the racer handbook. AQI ok for now, but trending upwards. Hope we can get some rain or helpful winds.

Last night’s rain was perfect! AQI is lower and dirt should be great on Saturday. Just 24 hours to go…

How’d it go for everyone? I DNF’d at Mile 54…7hr 20min into the race. My hands, wrists and upper body were just smoked. I could barely hang on to my bike coming into the 2nd aid station and didn’t think it would’ve been safe for me to continue. I did nearly all my training on the trainer and road bike, which I now know was not effective for this race. Definitely need more hours and longer hours on the MTB. Brutal but beautiful course and will come back for 2023.
