Outdoor workouts not syncing with Wahoo Elemnt Roam

I have been unable to access outdoor workouts on my Wahoo Elemnt Roam (v1) and am hoping someone has a good solution. Some background:

  • Wahoo Elemnt app kept telling me I needed to reauthorize Trainnerroad. These prompts continued despite reauthorizing.
  • Based on advice on this forum and from TR support, I deauthorized Wahoo via the Wahoo Elemnt app and then disconnected and reconnected Wahoo via the Activity Sync page on the TR website.
  • On my TR calendar, the next outdoor workout shows as being available on Wahoo. When I open the workout details and click “Push to Wahoo”, the icon changes to “Sent to Wahoo”.
  • When I select Planned Workouts in my Elemnt menu, the TR workout doesn’t show up. When I select “Sync”, the menu displays “Syncing Wahoo…”. I remember that it previously would say “Syncing Trainerroad” but does not do so any more.
  • Based on advice on this forum and from TR support, I attempted to connect my Elemnt to the Wahoo Fitness app (not the Wahoo Elemnt app). The app gives me an error saying “Your ELEMNT device is not yet supported in Wahoo App”.
  • I tried a factory reset of the Elemnt and re-tried all steps above (except authorizing via the Element app), with no success.

Thanks!

I’m in a similar position, just split from my coach and trainerroad outside sessions are not syncing to bolt v1, and not showing as available in the companion app, no problems with training peaks workout synching.

Could you ensure that you’ve connected TR to Wahoo the same way that’s described in this Help Center article?

There were some updates made to how Wahoo connects to TR a little while back, so you do need to make sure you’re doing things this way.

@Jdub-13, if you haven’t used your Wahoo with TR in a while, you’ll likely have to reauthorize the connection in your TR account.

Let me know what you find.

@eddie Thanks for the reply. I see the following instructions in the Help Center article:

1. Log into TrainerRoad to access your Account Profile.

2. Click the option to enable the "Updated Wahoo Connection "

However, when I go to my Account Profile, I do not see that specific option (“Updated Wahoo Connection”). I’ve looked on the main “Account” page as well as the “Settings” and “Connections” pages under the Account heading in the left sidebar. On the “Connections” page, I do have a Wahoo box under “Training Platforms” and “Activity Sync”. There was a “Connect” button here that I clicked, and now boxes have a green checkmark and say “Connected”. See screenshots below for reference.

Edit: Just to be clear, the workouts still do not appear in my Elemnt. The “Connect” process above (but not enabling “Updated Wahoo Connection”, which I can’t find) is something I had already done before posting in the forum.

I have deauthorised all of my connections, closed all apps and browsers, reopened and reconnect through TR desktop as per the instruction and there is still nothing loading to the wahoo companion app.

The workouts indicate that they are ready to use but they still do not appear in the wahoo companion app. Likewise the permissions in the wahoo companion app are not authorised for trainerroad planned workouts, I am assuming this should automatically update within the app.

I have additionally ensured that my browser and wahoo companion apps are the current version, and still have not found a solution

I had an engineer look at your account on the back end, and it sounds like you’re getting a 403 error.

Could you open the Wahoo ELEMNT app, go to “Workout” > “Pick a planned workout” > and “Sync From Web?”

Then ensure that TrainerRoad with our old logo isn’t connected (there will be a checkmark if it is and a > if it isn’t). That’s for connecting to our old API.

I opened the Wahoo Elemnt app and see the old Trainerroad logo with a >, not a checkmark.

@eddie thanks for the help. I have deauthorised the connection in the wahoo app, the wahoo app is still not syncing unless I force sync from the trainerroad desktop app, unfortunately the synced workout causes the wahoo companion app to crash every time I try to select it.

I would reach out to Wahoo about the ELEMNT app behavior.

I think that app is needed to sync to v1 devices..

@eddie @Jdub-13 Just wanted to let you know that I solved the issue by logging out of my Wahoo account in the ELEMNT app and logging in again. My TR workouts appeared on the Roam right away after that.

@Jdub-13 let me know if this works for you :backhand_index_pointing_up:
