Option to delete past undone workouts and take account of another workout

I like TR, but there’re times I like to take a break while keeping my forward plan in place… For example, I had a schedule 1.5 hr workout, but opted out of the workout and just had a fun 3hr workout. … it would be nice if TR new preference to drop past workouts and adapt for the next workout… “OK, looks like you skipped yesterday’s workout and did another ride”. The next day TR would delete my past workout not done and take into account the ride I did do…maybe I’m asking too much nice and convenient option to have.

  • This essentially happens. If you are using AT, and skip or miss a workout, the most common adaptation you will get is a repeat of that same workout since you didn’t complete it. They aim to apply appropriate training stress to stimulate adaptations, so making sure you get a prescribed workout is the goal.
  • This is a very different use case. Skipping is not the same as substituting, which this comment is suggesting while the one above is a pure skip.
  • The issue here is the assumption that one workout can directly substitute for another. That can sure be the case, where people might have a great day and choose to migrate outside vs stick on a trainer. But if they do that, the best option is to employ the Outside Workouts function and perform it. Once you do that, TR makes the appropriate connection between your ride and the planned workout.

  • However, if you simply hop outside and do some random ride, there is no direct connection to the planned workout. It’s entirely possible that the differences between the planned workout and the outside ride have NOTHING to do with each other than you spent time on a bike.

  • As such, it is practical for TR to NOT make that connection as the default, unless you do the Outside Workout as I mention above. Noting that, it is possible to manually link just about any workout with any ride from outside. You do it on the calendar, but I caution against just doing it without consideration to the training impact of the planned workout vs what you did. If they align reasonably well, then link it. If they are not close, it’s not a great idea to connect them.

Future support for Adaptive Training will account for changes in dates prior as well importing workouts you’ve completed and making future adaptations accordingly, as long as they arent too far in the past (ie not relevant to your current Progression Levels).

Hi Thank you for the detailed explanation, and I can follow the logic.
This may be more of a personal perception or just my human experience (N=1). I find good progress with TR, but during the year I have to take 1 to 2 weeks off of TR to get out of the grind and get back to the “joy of riding”. For those couple of weeks off, it would be a wish if TR gave feedback on:

  • good substitute ride, * Going off plan. Yes, if on the TR program I do “Outside Workouts”
I understand that TR can not make the connection with random rides. So this is just a seed planting for what I experience and would like to see in TR. I don’t know if other users experience the same thing, or would like to see something along those lines. It would be similar to my Garmin telling me that I’m impacting aerobic or anaerobic training, and then tells me how much time for next workout. It is that type of look ahead advice for my random off TR program rides that I am asking about for a new feature(s).

OK, but if you are talking about stepping away from a plan, then you may be better off with the TrainNow option that is pretty much ideal for “filling in” when you can’t or don’t want to be on a long term plan.

OK, Thanks… I didn’t know about TrainNow. I’ll give it a try.
OK, so when I want a TR break, I’ll just get off my long-term plan and restart it when I am ready.
Thanks again for the tips

Thanks! Good to hear that future AT releases will be taking into account other rides! :grinning:
