I really like Ollie, but I much preferred his journeys on Cycling Weekly. His TT and HillClimb ones were proper little sagas and I felt like I was really getting behind an underdog.
GCN buried a load of these updates in the GCN show and they felt like an afterthought/sponsor plug rather than just making a big deal of all the hard work he was putting in.
Still enjoyable of course, just seems to have lost a little ‘something’ that made him great on the other channel.
I attended the record attempt at Newport Velodrome and at the end they mentioned a few numbers. He averaged around 300W (they didn’t give the exact figure) for the hour and weighed 69Kg, cadence was about 100 rpm. Hope that helps.
It’s free content, its mostly engaging and they’re constantly trying and genuinely seem a decent and talented bunch of individuals. Some of the content seems overly short such as the trip to Patagonia which was perfect for a much deeper dive on various points but inevitably ended up with a bite sized chunk of viewing.
I’ve no idea of their financial operating model and the constraints that has, so while its easy to pick fault, they’re out there doing it and for that they deserve respect.
