This is in regard to the bonus buttons. At launch it was stated that the bonus buttons only work with the Hammerhead computer. More recently several sources have said that they work with Karoo or Garmin (maybe Wahoo also). Does anyone have firsthand experience with compatibility with a Garmin or other non Karoo headunit? Thx!
Thatâs incorrect information, or more likely âselectiveâ information published by SRAM as the communication will be all about keeping people in their ecosystem.
The bonus buttons use the ANT+ Shifting Device Profile, so they work with any head unit that supports that. I have the right Red E1 lever bonus button set on the Edge 1050 to: Single press = Bell. Press and hold: Media Play/Pause. On the left I have that bonus button assigned to shifting (so on the 1x I can shift up and down on the left hand).
On Wahoo units things get a little less⌠configurable. Wahoo simply replicate head unit button function. I hope theyâll allow us to configure these (and Di2 D-Fly buttons) so we can at least ring the bell on the Ace without having to touch the screen.
Perfect, thanks GP. That is what I thought would be the case but assumptions donât always pan out. Ant+ is Ant+ it would seem and best for the consumer. Definitely want to do this upgrade, once I find a fair price below msrp
Could you expand on this? I didnât know there was a âpress and holdâ option for the buttons. So for the left, I assume you are doing single press for one shift and then press & hold to go the opposite direction?
How do you have up and down shifting set up with the left hand? Is it like single press down, long hold up?
I may mess with mine a bit and see if I could just get long left/long right to toggle between my garmin 1040 screens. My race yesterday required a lot of time flipping to my navigation and taking my hands off the bars on the rough terrain were not ideal.
E1 bonus buttons act like wired-in multi-clics, so they have a press and hold option (can also be used for droppers iirc). The AXS Blips with their short-burst-only battery saving design doesnât allow for it.
My left lever is set up for the lever/paddle button to shift one way, the bonus button to shift the other (I wonât even attempt to call it up/down shift because confusion).
Function assignment is different depending on the mode the button is in. Thereâs no press and hold for shifting mode, iirc.
Ah. Got it. Thanks for the clarification.
