The wind speed does go in the FIT file, so maybe some training platform can somehow use that data for completed activities to better refine things… that is one thing that came to mind but whether that is both realistic and useful is… a question.
This is an interesting swing for Wahoo. Basically ignoring their previous size category in favor of this.
I have been happy with my Bolt v1 for a number of years, but I’m definitely ready for an upgrade. Now my options are something shaped like an Android phone or a 4 year old Bolt v2.
Not sure how I go anywhere but the Garmin 840 at this point.
Unless there’s an Ace Mini on the horizon…
I have to imagine the product owner had a list of features and Cda was on that list. SWE told them they could do it if they had specific hardware for the data capture. The hardware was added as a must have during production and then i’d imagine during testing they realized there was no accurate way to provide that data so they shipped with a wind sensor just to make user of the data coming into that hardware.
Underwhelming and probably avoidable had the teams been a bit more aligned. All speculation of course.
Or a 540?
It does feel like there is a hole in the wahoo lineup - they surly need something to compete with the mid-range Garmins. They can’t just rely on people being anti-garmin.
OR a Roam XL?
As a data nerd sometimes it just to have more data even if it isn’t neccesarily useful. It was fun to see in DCRainmaker’s video to see that change when he went in and out of a draft.
Fun to read bike radar’s review after DC Rainmaker stated in his write up that you would be able to tell who actually used the unit and who didn’t…
Bike radar and the death of journalism (part 122…)
How they can crown Wahoo having better battery life isnt just bad journalism its downright negligence and incompetence
Love that this is just another jokes and memes thread now
Yeah, that’s pretty bad.
I mean, even Wahoo isn’t saying the ACE has a better screen than the Edge 1050. They certainly didn’t on the numerous calls I had with them. They tried to say it has a better screen than the Edge 1040 (which, is debatable once you account for battery life).
And, test after test shows battery life below the Edge 1050 in every scenario I’ve thrown at it - even letting the Edge 1050 burn battery at a higher backlight.
Man, that’s one of the worse takes I’ve seen. I don’t mind GCN’s advertorial per se, but the BikeRadar one is a new low.
My ranking on screens from a visibility to me perspective:
1050 > ROAM2 > K2 > ACE > 1040 > DURA
To the people earlier in the thread arguing with me that December 3rd was a great date to launch…
@dcrainmaker in his video: “no one is going out and rushing to buy a bike computer on December 3rd, but they are buying bike computers in the spring.” ![]()
Good thing half the globe isn’t in their “summer” while the rest of us “top side people” are in our own “winter” ![]()
Do Aussies celebrate the holidays in the summer? I need to get an invite for that!
How much space would be required from the mount to have adequate clearance for the ACE?
Let’s face it - BikeRadar has been crap for years…amazing that people still pay attention to it.
@stickmandj Hrm! How to answer that… maybe some pictures and a measurement will help?
Here’s my setup:
Measuring from the center of the Garmin->Wahoo adapter to where it hits the handlebar is 2.5 inches.
This results in having to essentially force it past where it hits twice:
But the corners are rather forgiving so it doesn’t really break anything, just scuffs a bit.
What about measuring the center of the mount on the computer itself to the bottom corner? That should give the minimum clearance required for most handlebars I think.
Ask and you shall receive: 60cm.
