I just bought some new tires and upon trying to mount them they’re pushing out some brown and white powder and I need to know if this is fine let alone normal.
Long story long the wife needed new tires that had a bit of flat resistance to them as murphy’s law is strong with her and somehow flats more often than she rides. I decided that a tougher tire within reason that’s also tubeless would hopefully bomb proof her rides. For myself this year I decided to try out Goodyear Eagle F1 which have been great so I figured for her I’d give Goodyear’s training tire a go and bought the Vector 4 season. Purchased from Bike Tires Direct so reputable enough. Arrived and looked normal in the box, spent minimal time on my doorstep. Upon unboxing saw some color around the bends and thought nothing of it and just went on to take them out, shape them and hang them to relax. That was Monday. Today(Wednesday) upon trying to mount them things got weird. All the working and pushing around seems to have pushed some sort of white or brown powder to the surface that’s getting in the wheel cavity, on the chair that I was using to support them while I worked the bead and on my hands. These tires have been especially stiff which I attribute to the flat protections but since this weirdness started happening I’ve been wondering if they’re old or something and the tire compound is separating. Anybody else have a similar experience? Something to be worried about and not use? Or stay the course, mount them and find out? Pictures below. As said, these are fresh out the box, never ridden or been outside. I have mounted quite a few tires and nothing has behaved like this.
