🎉🎉🎉 New Product Release! Updated Training Plans, Workout Levels, TrainNow Updates 🎉🎉🎉

Apologies if this has already been reported but I was presented with and clicked the “upgrade” button today and the system duplicated/added some workouts. Presumably because I’d shifted the originals around to different days this week:

Also I did a Threshold 5.1 workout yesterday, coach, that Fang Mountain ain’t gonna happen  It’s a long distance Tri mid volume based Plan Builder plan I’m following.

Sorry If it was stated before but does anyone know how they calculate progression levels of off a ramp test?

Edited: spelling

After further investigation it would seem that only some of my ramp tests show progression levels. It looks like they might be the ramp tests linked with a Plan Builder plan. Hard to say though as Plan Build kept on crapping the bed everytime I shifted something.
I gave up on Plan Builder in the end.

Here’s one from the end of SSB 2. 239 to 250.

The numbers make a lot more sense in this one as I was fairly compliant with the scheduled workouts and completed most of them indoors.
I’m looking forward to getting this sort of feedback on every ride. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t enjoying playing around with Xert in the meantime.

Why are these not presented in a logical order, of zone?

I’m pretty sure they are based off of your recent workout history. Not the ramp itself.
I’ve not heard it mentioned how much the ramp test acts as workout in it’s own right. TR?
If you look at the progression I posted above you can see that my ramp test result kicked all my progression levels back down a notch. From listening to the podcast today it sounds like that’s how it’s supposed to work.

@Jonathan
TrainNow update question: In the 308 podcast the team kept refering to TrainNow using “recent” history. How recent is recent. 2-3 days? a week? 2-3 weeks? something else? Even specific to a zone?

I am trying to understand if I have some time off (unspecified deliberately) how it might affect what TN recommends.

This ramp test progression thing looks like an accidental release. And the numbers are not right. I successfully did a level 6.9 VO2 workout but it says my VO2 level is 5.4 before and after the ramp.

I’ve spotted “Brasted” which is a popular climb to the south of London, UK so my guess is the usual naming convention applies but the creepy hand behind the little red door has been looking further afield…

I’m wondering if the next feature after AT is the introduction of AT plans. In my mind these wouldn’t specify the exact workout on each day, but the type of workout (e.g., Tuesday: sweetspot, Wednesday: endurance, etc.), and you could specify a max time (on Tuesday no workout longer than 1:15), and AT just selects the workout that matches the goal for that day that fits within the time constraint. This would also need a goal / target progression level ramp rate to work, but that would be easy to add.

Edit
This would also address a lot of requests for master, MV+, etc. plans, as these would be more customizable for your time constraints.

That is most likely the result of manually moving workouts around on the calender, which breaks them out of the Plan Builder. It’s a pain, but they need to be deleted manually.

This is basically how AT appears to work with Plan Builder. Plan Builder sets the days for the zones relevant to your event (chosen by the plan you picked) and AT guides you to that goal by replacing the workouts in those zones based on performance and subjective feedback. You also always have the option to choose an Alternate workout which replaces the Variants from before. This gives you the same workout filtering options as what’s available now with the workout levels released, but keeps the bounds of the search tighter to ensure you pick something within the realm of what was prescribed.

No worries, it’s easy to delete the extras and probably very difficult for TR to know what I was doing dragging stuff around and accommodate that. I’m glad I only adjusted this week

I was looking at the old log of General Build that I did late last year, which I failed to complete. I did also have a lot of life stresses during that time, and within a week of stopping I had caught Corona.

Looking at the workouts in week 3…Bashful +2 was Vo2Max 7.6 and Gabb was Anaerobic 9.1 :scream:! Up from week 2’s Spanish Needle -3 4.4, and week 1’s Williamson +2 at 6.9

I have been training for Long Distance Triathlon with TR training Plans for several years with great results, They have take me to KONA so I am really confident in TR, now I am really happy for the change AI and the new plans because they will give me new workouts and new structure which is always good for the mind, I am in week 5 of Base High Volume Long Distance Tri and before the plans updates, AI have done several modifications to the actual plan which all seems very positive for my training, now with the Plan Update I see other workouts that I am eager to try and I am sure that my training will continue to be productive as it has been for several years, it is always good to try new things. Progression Levels for me looks right except for Endurance that seems low because all my long rides are outside rides and I do not have a Power Meter now because my bike was stolen and went with it so for almost a year I have been training outside with only HR but this does not count yet for AI so my Endurance is Subestimated, my solution is to manually change my endurance rides for some more demanding, no big deal.

I like the old plans :frowning:

Can they still be accessible as legacy plans please TrainerRoad?

It worked, I did 8 minutes, right when it first estimated a result I quit:

As noted, the order is bad and should match the typical progression, just like the Career page, for consistency.

Additionally, I think a “summary” of the change/delta is good to add, like we get on the regular workouts.

Edit: Submitted to support@trainerroad.com just now.

I clicked on “update” and it’s now scheduled a Ramp Test for tomorrow and another one two week later on June 1. Why? Does the AI know that I’ve not retested since last October and it’s punishing me for that fact?

I know that this is how AT is acting, but I was thinking that this would be even more explicit:

  • Don’t actually list workouts by name, just by workout type - this would eliminate people’s workout expectations + eliminate the “accept adaptations”, as AT is determining day of which workout you would do
  • Address the requests by people to be able to set max training time during the week, and then a different amount of time on the weekends (or however your work / life schedule allow)

Without seeing your calendar, I would guess that you are nearing the end of one phase, while on the verge of starting a new one.
