Hello! I’m trying to get used to the new features in TR and have a few questions after a few weeks with them:
-
When doing a Solo Ride or Group Ride as part of a TR plan, should we be targeting total TSS, time, or something else for when to cut it?
-
Somewhat related, when I created my adaptive training plan I replaced my easy recovery ride and endurance rides for the week with Solo Rides. The system asks for how long I should go for and I really don’t know what to put there. I have time to do long rides, but adaptive training seems to fill the time no matter how much I give it even if the ride probably shouldn’t be 3+ hours long (and I imagine some of my rides probably should be longer). For example, my recovery rides are now three hours but there’s no way I can go easy enough on any kind of actual terrain to keep my TSS near the target. How long should those rides be ideally inside of the training plan?
-
Is there a way to add an off week in our training plans that also pushes back the weeks following? I’m supposed to start Base 3 while traveling. I tried moving the start of the week to the following but that didn’t edit the workouts; so I tried clearing the week (which works) but then the rest of the training block remains unaffected and I’d like to simply delay the start by one week and just continue from there… Is that possible?
Thanks for any feedback on this! Love the product!
Hey there and thanks for the kind words!
- For Solo/Group Rides, try to make them mirror your original workout as closely as possible. For an Endurance ride, for example, if the original session was 2 hours, try to ride smoothly at Z2 for about 2 hours. The TSS should align naturally with what the original session called for.
- Similarly, try to keep these durations about the same as what your plan originally had you doing. For Z2 spins, think roughly 30-60 minutes. Endurance rides can be longer, of course.
- The best way to handle this at the moment is to use Calendar Annotations. You can mark that you have time off coming up and Adaptive Training will edit your plan for you. You shouldn’t need to do anything specific – just let the workouts “pass by” and when you come back after your time off, AT will propose changes to your plan to get you back on track.
I also checked out your account to see if I could fix those 3hr “easy rides.” It looks like that one coming up this week is now set to 1hr. On the web, you should be able to change those durations by clicking on the workout, which triggers this menu to appear:
Just make sure to click on “Save” when you’re done editing, and you should be good to go!
Hope that helps you out – feel free to let me know if you have any other questions!
You are not alone. I really don’t understand the purpose of the group/solo rides. Maybe they are placeholders for some future functionality? They don’t adapt. They don’t affect PLs. They seem like placeholders.
For now, I’m still following the “go with a LV plan and add” advice that has been given so many times in the past.
