Need some help getting started

Hi all – I’m technologically challenged in general and having trouble getting things to work. I had a Cervelo S2 (road bike used for triathlon) set up just fine on Zwift (without TR) and took it off the trainer to begin Spring riding outside and put an older road bike on the trainer. I first tried Zwift and it just wouldn’t work in erg (still not TR). It was kind of jerky and a little bouncy for lack of a better term – not the whole bike, but the tire. Kind of like hitting a bump every second or two. It would try to climb a bit and then just drop power and stop.

Around that time I set up Trainer road. At first, each workout is okay. After about 10 mins, the same thing is happening, and I’ve had to quit 3-4 workouts because it loses ERG and starts dropping power. It’s super frustrating because I don’t have time to mess around with it every time I need to get in a quick ride.

Right now I have a 2013 Orbea Orca with a Wahoo Kickr Snap. Mavic Cosmic Elite wheels and well-used Thickslick tires. I thought maybe it was the tire, but then why would it work for 10-15 mins before quitting?

I appreciate any thoughts!!

IDK. Not familiar specifically with the Kickr Snap, but perhaps the tire is slipping the trainer’s roller. First check that the tire is in good shape and that its tread is not separating from the casing anywhere. Make sure the tire is at the correct pressure, the roller and tire are clean (isopropyl alcohol is a good cleaner) and that the roller-tire contact pressure is set correctly. Once that is done, warm up the tire by riding on the trainer for 5-10 minutes, low resistance if fine, then do a spin-down calibration. See if that sorts things out for you.

It still could be the tires. Those thickslicks aren’t meant for an indoor trainer, and as they heat up (they get really, really hot), they could soften enough to cause issues.

It, of course, could be a trainer issue, but I think the first thing to try should be proper trainer tires! :mechanic:

If that doesn’t work, it might be worth reaching out to Wahoo. :selfie:

Thank you. Good thoughts!

Okay, I do have a trainer tire that I can try. That should have been a first thought. Thanks!
