Muc off tubless sealant

Hello!
I recently switched from stans race sealant to muc off, I have the mtb version as it was the one i could get hold of fast. I have used it on both my road and gravel bike and had leaks on both.
Small holes that dont seal and not even any spray from the tire. I have used more the the minimum required amount of sealant.

I took of my road tire about 48 hours after setting it up and the sealant is covering the inside of the tire but seems to thick and does not create a wave/pool on the bottom of the tire.

Is the sealant faulty? I have Silcas sealant on the way.

Happy to hear your thoughts // Victor

I would not use it here or there
I would not use it anywhere

Here is another sealant question about brands:

Do different brands of sealant work betttrr with certain tires?

Has anyone had to add more sealant to the front or back running the the same tires?

I have noticed some people have issues with certain brands while others don’t .
Maybe every tire that comes off the same mold does not cure the same causing more pin holes in one than the next one.
Weird.
Didn’t mean to hijac your thread. Sorry.

All of the Muc Off sealant I’ve seen is really thick. I’m not sure how well it works, but it does seem a bit strange.. :mirror_ball:

Silca is great - what PSI you running?

Why did you switch from stans?

I’ve never heard anything good about muc off sealant…

I use orange seal and Stan’s never had any issues.

Silca doesn’t seem to be much better from what I’ve heard…

I probably didn’t give it a chance. I forget why as it was that long ago but I had work done to a wheel at a bike shop and it came back with muc off sealant. A mate who was using it in his wheels at the time was always complaining about the p’tures and mess; so after a few weeks I cleaned the wheel out and reverted to the Stans Race I was using in the other wheel.

i was/still am a muc off person. I have it in my tires now and it works decently.

that being said there are better options out there and I’m moving away from Muc Off Sealant. I have some orange seal I am going to use for my gravel bike and once that is used up will likely switch entirely over to all the bikes using the new Silca blend.

I have found with the muc off you need quite a bit more than expected to get the first initial seal and it just does not like the tan sidewalls that have a higher TPI (typically). Once i got a good layer like pictured on the inside sidewalls all the weeping stopped but also that was a lot of sealant just to get to that point.

I like muc off’s other products, but their sealant didn’t work for me. Too thick, didn’t seal well, especially on road tyres. I’m back to Stan’s.

Muc Off from personal experience does not work at all. I tried it for a time a few years back. It would not seal any size hole and when that stuff dries on the frame it is difficult to remove especially compared to latex sealants that simply wipe off no matter how long it’s been dried. I bought a large bottle and got so disappointed with the stuff I threw the rest away. There are always going to be multiple brands to choose from and the claims can be tempting but Orange Seal rarely lets me down.

Basically, I think that most knowledgeable people would recommend Orange Seal. The OG formula, not the Endurance version.

Silca has put a lot of impressive thought into the sealant. For road tubeless, which runs high pressure, it seems like Josh has the right theory. I know there were substantial teething pains with the first batch, though. I personally would wait until there was more feedback on batch 2.

Both batches work well but v2 is definitely an improvement!

just removed two mtb 2.4 (Conti Dubnital) tire which filled with Silca v2 exactly 30 days ago…

  • tires were rotated every second day if not used, riding temp: 18 - 30 degress celsius

good part:

  • remained very fluid, lost about 30% of the original fill (110ml)
  • easy to wash out with a shower:)

not soo good:

  • the so called carbon pieces formed 3-4 ā€œbigā€ balls inside the tire, and there were no ā€œfreeā€ carbon anywhere visible
  • cloged even a tubeless compatible valve, which Stans race and regulared never did

long story short: went back to Stans Race
