Wow, 9-12 month longevity even in hot climate? I’m lucky to get 30-60 days out of Orange Seal in height of summer.

having been on it for 3 months now I can attest it doesn’t dry out - and it doesn’t seal well either.

Unfortunately it does not live up to its promises, I came from docBlue which always worked well for me but the new silca sealant struggles even with small cuts and by now my 30mm Vittoria has 2 plugs inside and even WITH the plugs it struggles to seal. wouldn’t recommend at this stage!

Complete opposite experience here - seals really well, but I have had to add new sealant after 5 months

Same, works great. Not topped up since I first installed in March, still sealing no probs. A step forward vs the last version.

I have to agree, I have had several holes that I wouldn’t even think twice about with OrangeSeal that dont seem to want to seal with the new Silca. Even after throwing in dynaplugs i have had it not seal well around the plug. It seems to be having the most issues at road pressures (60-75), and a couple times when I have added air to the tire the next day, the sealant plug blows out

It would take something pretty special to move me away from orange seal at this point

At about $1.50 an ounce, I’m sticking to TruckerCo unless some magic comes along.

I’ve always wondered about this stuff but never been heaven enough to try it.

It’s just cheap “home brew”. But without the mess of doing it myself.

Greg, the owner of TruckerCo, is an avid mountain biker. And stupid fast himself.

I used Orange Endurance and Regular (for races) for a long time but have switched to Silca’s new version. Very happy with it and slowly switching all our bikes to Silca. Only downside is it does tend to plug the valves but if you put oil in the valve stem it helps prevent this. My mountain bike wheelset’s have Fillmore valves which is a non issue with plugging.

Do you have it in any road bikes? Seems like the majority of complaints are when running at higher pressures?

I use it in gravel and mountain bikes for myself and kids. I do have a wheelset with road tires but have not used those wheels this year to try it in them.

Noticed a screw that has been in my back tire this weekend. I am not sure how long this has been in the tire but the tire never lost any air pressure. I had a plug ready to go when I pulled the screw but it sealed right up with no plug. I will be sticking with the new Silca sealant as I am a happy customer.

Agree with a couple posts on here, leaves an awful mess of my frame, and sprays everywhere, but really doesn’t seal that well, and I’m not running crazy pressure. 50psi on a 30mm tyre.

Ill be switching back to stans sealant. Never had an issue with it, but wanted to try this new Silca V2 formula.

Stans sealant has now ruined 3x pairs of really nice bib shorts.

Each time, the small hole has sealed, but then the next ride failed again and sprayed all over. seals again, and then ruptures again.

The new Silca sealant has been working great for me on MTB tires. I was recently on a trip in VT and had a huge sidewall hole that took 5 plugs to seal. Silca sealed up and I was able to ride for another 2 hours on pretty technical terrain. Thumbs up from me.

That’s one way to plug a tire

Know a few folks that run it–it did not seem to be particularly compatible with Specialized Turbo road tires–lots of seeping through the tiny pores in the sidewalls and holding air less than 24 hours for the first few weeks of use. Now that it has been a few months I think problems have stopped but it took quite a while for the sealant to settle in vs Orange Seal which doesn’t seem to have the same issue of seeping with thin/porous sidewalls. I think I’ll stick to Stan’s in my MTB and gravel tires and OS on the road. Weird one off: friend our ours also had a rash that turned into full allergic reaction to the Silca sealant and had to go on steroids. Not a latex allergy but was something else in the sealant.

How did you not feel / hear that screw?

It was far enough off center that I didn’t feel it when riding. I believe I picked it up in a spot earlier this year where there was some debris on the sidewalk and I got a hole while riding which I plugged. What is crazy is the plug is almost in the exact same spot but just on the opposite side of the tire where the screw was.

Also, I did deflate the tire afterwards and check the inside of the rim which luckily wasn’t damaged.
